14) Dolphins: La'el Collins, OG, LSUOriginal pick: DeVante Parker, WR, Louisville.
Collins was drafted: Collins went undrafted.
Collins fell out of the draft due to off-the-field concerns, but we'll slot him to guard-needy Dolphins in this do-over.

28) Lions: Jay Ajayi, RB, Boise StateOriginal pick: Laken Tomlinson, OG, Duke.
Ajayi was drafted: Round 5, No. 149 overall by the Dolphins.
The Lions took Ameer Abdullah a round later so no reason to believe they wouldn't consider Ajayi in this spot.

Another example of why to attempt to trade back accumulate multiple 7th rounders to bag as many unloved college potential free agents as possible. Multiple teams were attempting to sign this guy after the draft and willing to pay more for his services than a 7th round pick including the Dolphins

Another blunder by Tannenbaum...thought he'd have Collins in the bag after the draft with his connections at Priority Sports and Collins' LSU teammates here to help recruit ... should've used one of our four 5th round picks on this guy, it was so obvious his agents were bluffing on him sitting out the year. Can't believe they fooled all these GMs.

Can you imagine.. we'd be in much better shape

The fact that not one of the 32 teams in the league used even a 7th on Collins indicates something was going on that we don't know about, I don't blame Tannenbaum for not drafting him.

The story goes that Commissioner Goodell instructed all teams not to draft Collins after the news of the murder came out. Goodell feared that this was another Aaron Hernandez situation that would look bad for the NFL and he wanted the matter fully investigated. Some teams (and apparently Miami was one) were eager to draft Collins with a late round pick because the upside was so big if Collins was exonerated.
For all 32 teams to all fall into line and not draft such a talented player was pretty remarkable. This isn't on Tannenbaum. You could argue that every single one of the 32 GMs screwed up by not giving up a late round pick. This was an instruction from the NFL's legal team. It just so happens that the Cowboys got lucky because Collins grew up a big Cowboys fan.

Agreed. I'm not a big Tannenbaum fan but this isn't on him.

You're posts are like Seinfeld episodes. Have no meaning and make me laugh.

Oh okay that says a lot. I was watching pick by pick go by with him #1 on the board. We couldn't have just tried a 7th damn??!! We wouldn't be talking about our horrific guard situation. That one hurt

Collins agent said if he wasn't drafted in the top two rounds he wouldn't sign.

That was a bluff, and many people thought it was a bluff. I was shocked that not one GM had the cojones to draft him. He was well worth the risk. If he had been involved, you just don't sign him. If he sits out, you've wasted a late round pick who probably wasn't going to make the team. As for the Goodell instructing people not to draft him, I'm almost 100% certain he cannot do that. Each team is an independent organization.

Instructing mightn't be the correct word. Let's just say that he made a strong recommendation to all 32 owners against drafting until the girl's murder was fully investigated by the police (and all 32 owners ensured that all 32 GMs followed that recommendation).

He would of just re-entered the draft the following year. The reason he wasn't able to do so was because he went undrafted.

His agent admitted after he signed with Dallas that he wouldn't actually have done that. It was a bluff.
