The QB poll I give most credence to (other than my own of course) is in.

Who votes?
"The voting panel for our third annual NFL QB Tier Rankings consisted of 42 league insiders -- 10 general managers, five head coaches, seven offensive coordinators, five defensive coordinators, eight personnel evaluators and seven other position coaches/executives."

What are Tiers?
Tier 1: Can carry his team each week. Team wins because of him.
Tier 2: Can carry team sometimes but not as consistently.
Tier 3: Legit starter but needs heavy run game/defense to win.
Tier 4: Might not want this guy starting all 16 games.
Tier 5: Do not think this guy should be starting.

Where does Tannehill rank?
24. Ryan Tannehill | Miami Dolphins

Avg. rating: 3.12 | Change in rating: -9.2% | 2015 rank: 17
Dolphins fans aren't the only ones growing impatient with Tannehill. Some voters are, too.
"I am hoping Adam Gase can help make him better," a GM said. "Adam has a unique way about getting guys better. He can take what he is trying to do and break it down in components that make sense to the guys. He gains their confidence very easily."
One head coach said he suspected Tannehill has struggled becoming a leader for a range of reasons. Tannehill was already married upon entering the league, putting him in a social demographic separate from other young teammates. Tannehill is naturally quiet, and some thought his former coach, Joe Philbin, was not an enthusiastic endorser. Reports have surfaced suggesting former Dolphins receivers weren't onboard with Tannehill.
"I really want to move him up, but I just think Tannehill is a one-level thrower," an offensive coordinator said. "He can't arc and pace the ball. Adam will hide his deficiencies. Tannehill would get exposed other places. They will throw short, underneath stuff -- catch-and-carry plays. But if Tannehill went and played in vertical offense, it would be a train wreck."

That's great, except I would rather have Tannehill over any of the tier 2 guys and half the tier 1 guys. It's not his fault he's never had an O-line worth ****. Even the mighty Aaron Rogers was playing like **** last year when his offensive line sucked. It gets cumulative. You hear footsteps and your vision down the field decreases and your footwork fails and you play worse, period.
Tannehill has exceeded his environment, IMO.

It's so funny when people say the QB can carry a team. I mean....who is catching those balls anyway? Is he running downfield and catching his own passes? Who is blocking for the QB? Is he really just scoring 40 ppg by himself while the defense gives up 39?

Wouldn't exceeding his environment mean he is able to maintain his vision down the field and proper footwork?

Ohweeee is this SPOT ON.

you would take him over Big Ben, Newton, Wilson, Luck etc?

Someone please name for me the QB who carries his TEAM... EVERY week.

Lots of guys have done it. The guys in Tier 1 are all doing it now. We all watched Marino do it for like 17 years. Tannehill has a lot of room to grow. I think he can make strides this year but this is a fair assessment. Knocking other guys to prop him up isn't a good argument.

If you look at the voting...Brady, Rodgers and Roethlisberger. Newton, Brees, Wilson and Luck not far off.

What did Marino carry his team to? What happened during those 8 seasons where the team didn't make the playoffs? What about those 4 straight seasons at .500 or worse?

Miami never had 4 straight seasons of .500 or worse under Marino and ONLY had one losing season in his 17 year career.

Even during the one losing season (1988) Miami scored 24 or more points 9 games and 30 or more 4 games. Juxtaposed with last season Miami scored 20 or fewer 13 of 16 games.

Actually Miami did have such a period: 1986 through 1989. The team finished no better than 8-8. Though you're right that the team had only one losing season during Marino's career, in 1988. Of course, had Marino not been on those teams, they would have been lucky to win four games a year. The defense and the running game were that bad. When your QB throws for 448 yards, 6 TDs, and finishes the game with a QB rating of over 110, it's not the QBs fault that the game was lost.
