[FONT=&quot]On the second night of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins moved up to select Leonte Carroo in the third round. In exchange for the 86th overall pick, Miami traded their sixth-round pick in 2016, along with their third and fourth round picks in 2017 to the Minnesota Vikings.

Despite the overhaul of picks Miami gave up to grab Carroo, it was a relatively quiet season for the rookie wideout.

[FONT=&quot]Carroo finished the season with just three receptions on the year for 29 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown came in Week 12 on his lone reception of the day in a win over the San Francisco 49ers.

The move to trade up for Carroo puzzled many at the time as the wide receiver position was, arguably, the strongest for the Dolphins going into 2016.

Regardless, Miami was high on Carroo from early season workouts, and believed him to be a long-term asset at the position. He may have had trouble getting on the field in 2016, but rest assured they believe in his playmaking ability if they were willing to give up that much.

[FONT=&quot]The primary reason for Carroo having trouble getting on the field is because he was behind Jarvis Landry, DeVante Parker, and Kenny Stills on the depth chart.

Stills is now an unrestricted free agent, and even though the Dolphins have expressed interest in retaining him, he will come at a hefty price that Miami may simply not be willing to pay up for.

Even though Stills had an outstanding 2016 season, the same cannot be said for his 2015 season with the team when he finished with just 27 receptions and three touchdowns.

Drafting Carroo gave the Dolphins an early backup plan in case of two possibilities. If Stills had another disappointing season it would have given Miami an easy reason to let him walk.

BOOOO!!!!!!

jk essentially a red shirt rookie season given Miami only played 3 wrs in gases offense in 2016

The move to draft Caroo was the most puzzling thing in the entire draft last year. The whole draftniks were shocked at what Miami gave up to select him. It totally destroy Miami's draft grade as well as the next draft. Imagine if Miami had used that pick for a LB ala Josh Perry of Ohio State, Kentrall Brothers etc.

Judging by what Tannenbaum did last year, by overreaching, consider OJ Howard as good as Miami first rd pick. He will trade up for him if hes still available in the late teens. Remember he did the same for the Jets.

I hope Caroo gets more of an opportunity as I think he can shine a bit...how much who knows.

Misleading title! There was nothing to recap! I hope he can find the field next year - but not at the expense of losing any of the 3 guys ahead of him.

I believe Stills getting more comfortable with Ryan
plus Stills first year with us he played 57.5 % of the offensive snaps
compared to 83.9 % this season...Stills played 201 more snaps this season
when compared to last season. Played a good part of the increased production

Uncle Joe and his staff criminally underutilized Stills and Gase did not

Stills is gone, guys. Sorry to say, but you can't pay two-three guys (Landry and Stills, plus a Parker extension if he finally realizes his potential) premium WR money on one team, when you have so many needs, and guys waiting in the wings.

That said, Don't be surprised to see Carroo be traded or released/to PS in the final cuts if he doesn't absolutely shine in OTAs and TC. He had his redshirt year, and Gase's impatience with non-performance is well-known now. Plus, he'd have big shoes to fill if he replaced Stills.

I'd like to see Carroo do well and stick, and replace Stills. I like a 6'1" WR better than a 5'10" WR any day, all things being equal otherwise.

We needed a lb more than a WR, and we paid to high of a price to make that move. These facts are undenialable, but have nothing to do with Leonte Carroo. I think the reasoning was we play a 3 WR set, and Stills was invisible the year prior, and Parker had injury problems in 2015. They both played well and stayed on the field all season. If we would have lost a WR to an injury the pick would look a lot better.

I don't think this season was a disappointment. WR is the hardest position to have rookie success. Look at 1st round picks Doctson and Treadwell, who had three catches combined. If we lose Still, or if any one gets injured next season I have faith Carroo will be ready. When he got a chance againt San Fran he came up huge.

Still puzzles me what we gave up for what is essentially a fourth receiver.. He's never going to move ahead the three guys in front of him and he's in no way a replacemet for Stills if we lose him.

The real kicker here is on top of it this appears to be a really good deep draft by most accounts.... would have been good to have more picks/flexibility but it's done..

What the hell are you talking about? Leontee Caroo and Kenny Stills are exactly the same height. 5'11.7" or approximately 6'0"

Seems to me this is called the historian's fallacy. Last years draft the WR's were a bit questionable with Stills' lack of production, and Parker's injurys. Landry was good but not a TD maker. For LB's there was Misi, Jenkins, Hull, Neville, traded for Alonso.... in both situations Miami was banking on experience and coaching to elevate the group's play. We just brought in an Offense minded coach and knew he needed WR options.
