First thing: Give Reshad Jones a new deal. A great big fat one. I predict he will continue to play at an elite level into his mid thirties. Lock him up. He is our best player; and the best place,IMO,to begin a rebuild is with rewarding the good guys and dumping the bad guys.
As soon as our injury prone vets get healthy, trade them for whatever we can get. Yes we have a few weeks left until the deadline, so waiting for need to develop would be smart.Jordan Cameron, Brandon Albert,Mike Pouncey,Koa Misi,Jelani Jenkins,Arian Foster,Earl Mitchell and any other veteran with value that we can get a good deal for, except Cam Wake. Mario Williams might just fetch a nice pick, but I wouldn't under sell him. He just isn't getting paid that much for a guy who can still produce double digit sacks when motivated. He could be just what the Raiders need. They have nothing opposite Mack and teams are just keying in on Mack and shutting him completely out. A motivated Williams could change everything for them. I really like Super Mario, but I'm afraid if he remains on this Dolphins team, he will again disappear and become worthless. I'd love a 3rd.
I'd take a 4th.
Give Maxwell one more shot, then, if he doesn't respond, just cut him. His salary is too high for him to be traded. Tannehill?? What a black hole this guy , and his absurd contract turned out to be. Bench him. Release him next offseason.
There is no cap relief by cutting Ja'Wuan James so he plays out his contract as a backup. Earl Mitchell should just be an injury settlement. He is just in the way
, and we could use the cap room going forward.
Trade Partners for our vets: Atlanta might have a real shot at the playoffs this year but they are in desperate need of help at key positions and depth. They should definitely be buyers this fall, especially if they win again this week. They only have around 4 mil in cap remaining but they have a ton of money coming off the books next year. Jelani Jenkins is still on his rookie deal. I'd love a 7th. Somebody else needs to get a shot.
Jags are overflowing with cap room at something over 40 mil. Might be interested in Pouncey seeing as how their line is in shambles and they are playing a 6'6" inch guard/tackle at center. With the injuries, stupidity, and high salary, we won't get much.....maybe a fourth? Anyway, good riddance.
Brandon Albert anyone? Probably not. Not unless a bonafide contender with enough cap room were to suffer injuries to their line. Most of the teams that may be interested don't have the cap room. Panthers? A 5th
I really think we could get a late pick for Foster from either Detroit or the Vikings. If he gets well soon. 7th. The rest aren't trade worthy. Release them and let the younger guys get playing time.
Now this....is controversial. I would trade Jarvis Landry to the Cowboys for a first round pick. Today! I love Landry as much as the next guy, but we have Caroo and Grant, and the boys are mighty desperate right now. If they want one of our cheap pass DE's or a guy like Michael Thomas or Walt Aikens, we throw them in. Cowboys don't have much cap room, but they could easily clear some, however, if they wanted Landry and Jason Jones it wouldn't cost them much in salary.
2017 free agency: Bring back Simms and Sims and prioritize Culliver if he comes back strong, and all the other effective FA's which really aren't many.
Kevin Zeitler OG.....LB Jamie Collins, .......DT Dontari Poe.....TE Gavin Escobar
Begin transitioning to a base 3-4 defense like the one Jones was involved with in Houston.
Draft: If we really did dump almost all our expensive vets and bench Tannehill and give Moore one more shot, or even Daughty some games as a starter, we could tank and get the first pick. NOT, try to lose games, but wisely understanding the need to rebuild, and prioritize player development the rest of this season.
Pick#1......Trade down a few spots and garner a bevy of picks. If we trade down to the #6 or #7 we should still get around the same comp the Browns got for trading down from the #2 to the #8 spot last year. The situation may be similar to last year with a few teams looking seriously to trade up. Wentz's success could really fuel this. Draft Jabril Peppers. He will still be there according to Brugler...http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/mock-draft/expert/dane-brugler
Seeing as this is just a 2017 mock we add a 2nd and a 3rd round pick.
