2025 Cap Update

They are not able to spread Brooks, Armstead or Seiler’s 2025 restructures out over a number of years. They are all free agents in 2027, so you are basically kicking all their signing bonuses out 1 year, almost 20 milllion. Brooks would have a cap number of 15 mil in 2026, and so would Seiler. Armstead’s cap number would be 31 mil in 2026. They have 28 players under contract for 2026 with 13 mil to spend. These restructures would put them 7 mil in the red in 2026. They add Tua’s 19 mil in restructure in 2025, which can be spread out over the following 3 years at roughly 6 mil and you are now in the hole 13 mil in 2026 with 28 players signed. These restructures will continue every year until they blow it up or they become the Saints!

Unless the deals include an extension then none of those contracts should be restructured. Fill all holes with draftees, UDFAs and vet minimum guys if necessary. Cut players that aren't in the long term plan if the savings are meaningful and the dead hit doesn't sink the ship.

That's not to say that no contract should be extended/restructured; clearly some should (Sieler is the most obvious). But we should not set the team up to be hostage to players that don't fit, just because we can push some of their contract money into future years (when they likely still won't fit and will all the while be taking a roster spot from someone who might fit).

37, not many

But, in comparison,
KC '25 cap is $3.2 with 37 under contract, HOU is $6.3 with 38 under contract, and PIT is $6.3 with 40 under contract. Top teams with good GMs. Cap is a concern, but not crisis mode

Agreed…..

This is how it works in the NFL and where we are currently is not uncommon or unmanageable

This is right around the time of year peoples hair catches on fire about it and we have to talk back from the cliff.

Look again… Steelers have 53mil to spend next year with 40 players under contract. In 2026, they have 144 mil to spend where the Dolphins have 13 mil and probably more restructures.

Your #’s are also wrong for the Chiefs and Texans

By comparison
Chiefs 2025 20 mil and 36 under contract

Texans 2025 15 mil and 40 under contract

Dolphins 2025 3.6 mil and 37 under contract

You go out 1 year to 2026 and it gets worse

Chiefs 2026 cap 77 mil & 24 under contract

Texans 2026 cap 93 mil & 28 under contract

Dolphins 2026 cap 13 mil & 28 under contract

Moving forward to 2026 those Dolphins numbers will look much worse due to the restructures coming next year.

Actually, as far as Cap management Grier/Shore have done a pretty good job.

One can disagree with specific personnel moves, but from a strictly cap numbers and dead $ standpoint, there are far worse organizations

You are 100% correct here. Strictly cap related, they have done a good job.

Those 3 year contracts they like to do give then a lot of flexibility.

What is this suppose to mean?

You might want to use the 2025 tab to get the correct numbers you previously reported. You used this years numbers.

First, the good news. I made it to late Nov before I made a mistake this yr. I blame that on my Uber driver.
Let's try this another way . . . "effective cap space." Bottom 7 teams . . .
  • Buffalo Bills -$3.71MM
  • Houston Texans -$5.68MM
  • Miami Dolphins -$9.36MM
  • Seattle Seahawks -$20.48MM
  • San Francisco 49ers -$38.91MM
  • Cleveland Browns -$42.85MM
  • New Orleans Saints -$88.15MM
The numbers above reflect “effective cap space,” meaning they account for the top-51 players and projected rookie classes. This list is based on a projected salary cap of $260MM.

It's not how much space we have as much as the players we will have to replace this offseason, and not insignificant players.
