The issue with taking Gabriel is that while he is an excellent fit with McDaniel as HC who knows how long he will be in Miami?

In a year The Fins might have a HC who wants a athletic QB or one with a big arm.

He would be a great fit to backup Tua in McD's Offense. I think he is being underrated, his arm is better than he gets credit for, his issue is lack of height.

He is a winner and a leader and in the right situation could do well.

I personally do not believe for a second that Grier or McDaniel are going anywhere. I have ranted and preached the evils of throwing away progress and starting over, repeatedly! Last year Tua made a play with his heart and lost his head. It ruined the Dolphins' season... plus I spent a fortune on Seahawks tickets just to go up there and be embarrassed by the dysfunctional offense losing a game which the defense kept within reach. Most of us inhabitants of FH thought we had a great team last year. Everyone else in the AFCE was retooling and we planned on making a playoff run. We learned a hard lesson... I hope!

Tua needs to be protected. From the defense... and from himself. The concussion wasn't on the OL. But the team didn't sufficiently prepare for an extensive QB absence. QB is the most important position on the field and it isn't even close. Priority #1 for this off-season is to solidify our QB position with necessary depth.

@jimthefin and I agree that Gabriel is a perfect fit to be the backup. Conventional wisdom says that QB's must be over 6 feet tall and thick enough to withstand 18 weeks of getting physically pounded.

We have seen Gabriel play for 5 college seasons in power 5 conferences. He has thrived with his ability to see targets and deliver the football with Heismanic efficiency. He also didn't get injured.

Playing NFL QB at <=6"0 has been done many times: Drew Brees is HOF bound, owns top five all-time passing records. Russell Wilson Has won a Superbowl, lost another, and has borderline HOF production. Sonny Jergensen, Pat Hayden, YA Tittle, Len Dawson, Sid Luckman, Michael Vick, Doug Flutie (5' 10"), Joe Theisman, Fran Tarkenton, and Bob Griese (6' 1').

In addition, many others have played backup QB over the years too. A prime example is Chase Daniel. Daniel mentored perfect prototype QB Blaine Gabbert at Missouri. Gabbert was drafted #10 overall, while Daniel went undrafted because he was 6' 0. Gabbert had a mediocre NFL career. Daniel had a 14 year NFL career as a reliable backup. He was at New Orleans, when they were great, as Drew Brees' backup. Brees and Daniel were the same size. Brees backed up Doug Flutie in his rookie year.

Fortunately, Gabriel went down to Miami to visit the Dolphins after the Senior Bowl. They must not be shy pursuing Gabriel on Draft Day. Gabriel has shown that he can operate different styles of offenses so other teams should be very interested in the 2025 Draft's Best Backup QB Prospect as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get picked in round one, given Bo Nix's surprising success this year. Even Pick #13 is a dirt-cheap price to pay for a franchise QB duo.
