i got da juice
Starter
the way i look at it there are 2 tiers of tackles in the first 2 rounds
tier 1-jake long
tier 2- guys like clady, otah, williams and cherilus
i can see jake being dominant while guys in the second tier being effective to solid starters right away.
after researching team needs and various mock drafts i came to a very real conclusion that cherilus, the guy everyone wants with 32 and will justify us taking c. long, may, and IMO probobly, wont be there at 32.
who will be, Nicks and Baker(terrible pro day) who i think, after watching film will not be effective in a starting role right away. there fore that brings into question how far is j. long's skill set from a guy like nicks or baker. i feel it is way more substanchal than chris long to say a lawrence jackson or any other olb that could be found 2b, 3 ect. if you are going to use a pick on a T you don't want to have to use a pick next year fixing the mistake, t is one of the most key positions in football and very few times are marquie T's available in FA, unlike DE/olbs. baker and nicks scare me as i can see shades of bust in each of them, after watching their film. i have also studied film from j. Long and at his very poorest i can project he would still be an upgrade over those 3 tier available guys. im not saying that jake long is joe thomas, but the fact that matt ryan isn't peyton manning is stopping ryan sopporters just as the fact that chris long isn't shawn merriman( w/o the seriods) doesnt stop c long sopporters from thinking their guy should be our pick. to me it boils down to our team as of right now we have above average to average pass rushing ( jt and a healthy joey porter, who is returning to the d that made him great in pitt) compared to an o line that stands like this lt-carey ( pro bowl at RT, IMO) lg-smiley c-satele rg-mormimo (great depth not a starter yet) rt- Tony saparno (jk,) but u get my point. we have a talented young qb with lots of potential we have a great and balanced running attack, we have a reciever that, given time, could out race any secondary in football. now what would help all those things at once. Jake Long.
