2nd String Argument

I keep seeing posts that down AJ for having success against the second team. However, we are very happy to give all the accolades, to Crowder, Roth, Diamond and Boston for having success against the second team.

AJ looks this preseason the same as when he started and he outplayed Gus against the Bears when AJ was the starter.

I do not know why some of you are so down on AJ. The guy aplayed less than a full season of NFL ball, and half a season of college ball. He can make all the throws. And do not even bring that he only throws 10 yard argument up. He threw a laser for 20 yards that should have been caught by Donald Lee for a TD, and then came back and threw 36 for a TD. And speaking of his TD, it was the same pattern and the same throw that Gus tried to hit to Chambers where Chamber had to leave his feet and go out of bounds. Feeley hit the exact same throw to Farmer, led it outside, BUT still kept in the field of play.
Gus overthrew at least two or three big plays, AJ hit his.

I accpet that the QB position is going to struggle this year. However, it's time to give AJ his due. He shows up and is effective every week. The only thing he needs is more playing time.

I can't really say I was down on him. I was mostly neutral on him, though I wanted to see him have a good game. But you're right.

It's about time I see a post like this. Good post.:)

I don't know. I think if Linehan had not tabbed Gus as his boy, then we would be seeing AJ get the start.
We may still see Feeley start. People talk about the short safe passes Feeley makes. I stated in the game thread last night that I think he's really gunshy at this point. I do believe that. Throwing a game winning TD pass hopefully helps his self-esteem and confidence.

I just don't think you get it.

If you had gotten hammered like he did last year it could take time to get in a groove again. Gus never had a groove.

Playing against 2nd stringers is not the same thing as playing against 1st stringers. This is why Saban says the coaches have to make a staff decision about what AJ has done against the 2nd stringers.

However I don't see the point of minimizing the fact that 2nd stringers are not 1st stringers. One set are starters and the other set are backups.

For all of you blind bats who want AJ to be our startng QB, dont count on it. Gus will be the guy, he just needs to get on the same page with all of his stars around him. He will be fine once the long ball hooks up. And it will.

If anyone was reading the body language with Saban and Feeley last night......didnt look good. sorry.

Why even go there?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion without being bashed for it.
