Without the 61-yard reverse by Chambers:

Denver game: 32 carries for 90 yards

Jets game: 18 carries for 66 yards

Yes that's 3.05 yards per carry. The problem with this team is still the same problem we've had the last two seasons -- poor run blocking. And that includes Ricky's last season before he quit. He averaged under 3.5 YPC that year. We had the same problem this preseason too.

But I guess that's what happens when you draft the Jamar Fletchers and Eddie Moores of the world without spending anything higher than a 3rd on an O lineman in 5 years (before Carey). And the worst part is that the O linemen we drafted in the 3rd (Wade Smith and Taylor Whitley) are nowhere to be found.

Good job Wannstedt. You tried to replicate what you had in Dallas, and you couldn't even realize that the strengths of those teams were their offensive lines. Brilliant....

Ronnie's been running like a girl too. If they called him Hummer in college, he must have been doing something different. I want to see him start running people over.

agree...some people are blaming the qb play today. I dont, there were 6 drop balls, Frerotte had not time to throw, and there were no holes to run.

game was real physical on both sides, jets were not great either, short field, four fumbles bounce back to them,

Yeah but contrast Ronnie's running with that of Larry Johnson on that 35-yard TD run he had against the Jets last week. He basically turned the corner, kicked it into overdrive, and hit the endzone untouched. That's because he had a phalanx of blockers out there. Ronnie's got nobody.

Ah hah, yeah, he runs like a girl. Hmmm, I guees I'm the only one who remembers a certain RB who was a bust his first 2 seasons. A certain L Thomlinson. I thinks HE"S done OK.

Yeah but this is like the 40th game out of the last 43 that we couldn't get a consistent ground game going. That signals a problem. And getting a ground game going is the cornerstone of anyone's offense.

Ronnie didn't play well today. I know he didn't have great blocking, but he had some blocking, and there were a few plays where he missed the hole, or followed the wrong block. He needs to work on these things, and sadly, his holdout has really hurt him, and the team so far.

I never called him a bust, drama queen. He's not playing the way that he played in college, and that can be fixed, and needs to be fixed for us to be successful.

Let's not forget that Sammy Morris looked pretty darn good behind the same offensive line.

It's hard to run over people when they're hitting you before you even have the ball.

I never noticed people 2-5 yards in the backfield as Sammy took the handoff either. The line either held their own or did open a small hole for Sammy. They have opened holes for Ronnie also, only to let 2-3 defenders thru the next carry.

the same thing happened to ricky in 2003, remember? and i recall people saying, "ricky williams has the worst vision of any running back in the league." honestly. it's remarkable.

Yeah so, that happened 2 or 3 times. Most of the time he was hiding behind a lineman waiting for a hole to open.

Forget about Ronnie Brown -- this team has averaged UNDER four yards per carry for the past two years (even with Ricky running), and it happened again this preseason. This is what happens when you don't draft offensive linemen higher than the 3rd round for 5 years. It's pretty simple.

Same holes, Sammy just hits it faster and harder. Ronnie is nervous and hesitant. He's stinking it up right now but I'm sure he'll be fine in the long run. Upside is we have 2 more games for Ricky's return. Ricky will either be the savior, or he will at least take pressure off Ronnie and allow him to gracefully find his feet.
