I don't understand. the 3-4 Defense I know that J. Taylor, J. Porter, Z. Thomas, C. Crowder, W. Allen (or Andre Goodman), T. Daniels, Y. Bell, J. Allen, M. Roth, and V. Holliday will all probably start next year (except I'm not sold on the CB), but who is the 11th man D. Spragan (or any other LB we have) or K. Traylor (or any other NT we have) but does this mean we have 2 ILB and 2 OLB and no nose tackle? What happens to K. Traylor, F. Evans or any other NT we have? im so confused...

wait does the NT stay in and the DT are out? then what happens to all the money we gave Holliday if we don't even have his position in our defensive formation?

In a standard 3-4 you have a NT and two DEs. In your example JT is an LB so you're missing a DL.

so basically you have the same defensive except you move jason taylor farther back? in that case is he a mlb or olb ?

Spragan?

He is done w/ us . . . unless he resigns a small contract for depth.

Its Traylor and if he retires, then hopefully Fred Evans or Manny steps up, or we can always go after a guy in the draft early (Branch?)

He's an OLB. The main advantage to a 3-4 is flexibility. The number of set rushers is minimized. The offense really just has to face one more guy that they don't know what he's doing.

so starting is
ROTH HOLLIDAY TRAYLOR
PORTER THOMAS CROWDER TAYLOR
W. ALLEN BELL J. ALLEN DANIELS
??

Let's try this-

Your typical 4-3 front 7 looks like this-

-------OLB--MLB--OLB----
------DE--DT---DT--DE----

---------T-G-C-G-T-TE-----

Here's a typical 3-4

----------ILB---ILB-----
----OLB--DE--NT--DE--OLB

---------T-G-C-G-T-TE-----

Last year, the Dolphins ran a "hybrid" defense that used both the above formations, but most of the time lined up in a 4-3 Over/Under, that looks alot more like a 3-4.

------------OLB--MLB------
------DE--DT--NT--DE--OLB

----------T-G-C-G-T-TE-----

Our defense last season had alignments pretty close to a 3-4, but with the names of 4-3 player.

Ultimately, not alot is going to change in terms of positioning or responsibility from last year to this year.

Traylor is a free agent, and is no longer on the roster. In your lineup, you are missing a DL. In the 3-4, Taylor drops back to OLB. Roth will be one DE. Holliday will either line up at NT or DE. So, we're missing either a NT or DE. It could be Fred Evans or Rodrigue Wright. Or, most likely, we bring someone else in.

As it stands right now, we only have 2 DE on the roster, Taylor and Roth. So, adding another 2-3 DE is a necessity.

if we got a good player to replace Traylor then we will have the best defense in the league for sure. Better than Chicago or Baltimore

i say deffinantly keep taylor at DE y would u move him when he justr won DPOY when playing there and still proving that he can play in both the 3-4 and 4-3 defensive schemes we should try and look at drafting someone like posluszny to fill our OLB empty position.

Because Taylor won the DPOY as basically the OLB in a 3-4 scheme. His actual title last year was "Open End." It was the definition of a hybrid position. Sometimes he lined up as a DEm other times as a OLB. There were even a couple of times he was inside as a DT/NT.

This year, he should be able to settle down into more of an OLB role from the 3-4 alignment. A position, mind you, that Taylor himself has mentioned is his favorite. So much so that he has even said he would not want to go back to just being a DE.

That's a pretty good explanation.

Probably will look something like this...
De-Matt Roth,Nt-Traylor/Evans,De-Draft Pick/Vonnie Holliday,
Oe/Olb Jason Taylor,Mlb-Crowder,Mlb-Thomas,Olb-Porter
Cb-Will Allen,Fs-Jason Allen,Ss-Yeremiah Bell,Cb-Travis Daniels/Draft Pick
