Do we have anybody on the CURRENT roster that fits this description? Or do we need to look into ***ency and the draft to find this type of NT?

3-4 NT is the toughest position to fill. The NT is head-up on the OC and is responsible for defending both A gaps in the running game. He faces constant double-teams and takes a pounding. He must have size, mental and physical toughness, stamina, durability, lateral quickness, and good technique in terms of playing with leverage. If the NT can not hold his ground, the defense is very vulnerable to runs between the tackles. The prototypical 3-4 NT is the Raiders' Ted Washington, who is a massive 6-5 365. Washington was the key to the Patriots win over the Panthers in the 2004 Super Bowl. Stephen Davis ran for a meager 19 yards on his first 9 carries, because Washington effectively stuffed the middle of the line. Other quality NTs include the Steelers' Casey Hampton (6-1 320) and the Chargers' Jamal Williams (6-2 348)

Paul Soliai is the closest we have to a pure NT based on dimensions on our roster. He's terribly raw and has sloppy technique, so I don't think we have one unless Keith Traylor comes back. However, Truck is only effective for about 25 plays a game tops. I think the ideal 3-4 NT in the draft is Ahtyba Rubin of Iowa State (late 2nd/early 3rd round) or B.J. Raji of Boston College if he enters the supplemental draft. Let's not forget that Jamal Williams of San Diego was a supplemental draft pick. If we don't end up with either of thsoe two, it may be a two-year transition to the 3-4 unless Soliai vastly improves and Truck comes back.

Big Ted is old now. I wanted to sign him in 2003-4, to replace an aging Bowens, but he went to the Raiders. Truck will probably retire. We don't have a prototypical NT. That's why we were so bad against the run last year.

If Haynesworth is not franchised... I sign him. Sometimes 1 player can make a big difference.

I've come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as a 3-4 NT. It's a myth like Big foot and global warming.

i was gonna say what about Paul Soliai....despite how raw he is or how sloppy his technique is,he can be coached, but all the same,if we don't have anyone else, there is FA and the draft.
