Will we be running a 3-4 or a 4-3 defense next season. I'm not sure if the guy we want to bring in as d-coord from Dallas runs a 4-3 or 3-4. Would JT be a DE or LB in the 3-4?

Probably a 3-4. Dallas ran a 3-4 so coach P will probably keep it the same if we bring him in as DC

I'd like to run a system that fits our players (or the players we get) and a coach that can teach and motivate the players in whatever system that is. Right now, I don't think that we have the players to play a 3-4. So, based on who we have, I'd prefer the 4-3. If we can pick up some bigger linemen and LBs, then I'd say we be better off with a 3-4.

parcells likes the 3-4. we have 4-3 personnel. we shall see. draft okam, beau bell, maybe laws - and we will see.

we basically ran a 3-4 Defense under Saban and our front seven was dominating lineman.

I want to see that defensive form which let athletic DE move around.

I dont under stand why everyone say we dont have the guys for a 3-4 the linebackers are there and some changes on the dline and we are set

jason taylor - zach thomas - channing crowder - joey porter
-----glenn dorsey - - vonnie holliday - - matt roth------

I hear all the time glenn dorsey cant play in a 3-4 i dont get why not
he is big enough and demands a double team every time
he can play on the outside and inside of a 3-4
same thing with vonnie he can play D-end and or DT
matt roth would be would be the only ? on our D-line
and we have some young DT that can rotate in and out

I think we'll see the 3-4 in full effect by 2009. We still have a lot of 4-3 personnel leftover from last year, but I'd imagine the 3-4 pieces will start coming in soon; especially draft day. (C. Long, Gholston, Bell, Wheeler, Balmer among others will all be possibilities).

we dont have the guys because dorsey is not on this team and many of us do not want dorsey on this team. besides that, weve got the peepes. you can even throw soliai in there but still, youve got two small MLBs with small backups - i like crowder on the ROLB - and two outside LBs with virtually no backups - decent ones at least. and dorsey would be an end in the 3-4.

Probably fully 3-4. Though I wish we can see a little 4-3 mixed in there to keep offenses honest.

No one knows.

Our two DC canidates, Rex Ryan ran a 3-4 that eventually morphed more into a 3-4 influenced 4-3/46 defense. Paul Pasqualoni coached linebackers in Parcell's 2-gap 3-4 and Phillips 1-gap 3-4, but ran a 4-3/3-4 hybrid as a head coach in college.

strictly 3-4..No more hybrid crap...Hybrid was good with saban but we dont have those type of players and Parcells D have always been sr8t up 3-4 with no hogwash

This is a very good question. This up coming year I still see us running the 3-4 or a hybrid. However.....

I personally would love to go back to the 4-3, for many reasons:

1.) The main reason the 3-4 used to work was because defenses where not used to seeing it, so they would make mistakes. Now practically every other NFL team is running the 3-4, so defenses are used to seeing it and defending it.

2.) The 3-4 and 4-3 require completely different players at almost every position. It was really easy to get the 3-4 players when the 4-3 was popular because no one else really needed them. Now it is the opposite, its easy to get 4-3 players (and playmakers) and harder to get 3-4 playmakers.

3.) In our division the 3-4 is run by 3 of the 4 teams, therefore the offensive lines are used to seeing it in practice; so its easier to block for.

I would love to get ahead of the curve and go back to the 4-3 now, because mark my words in about 5-10 years only a few teams will run the 3-4 and a new defensive scheme will be hot.
