The Miami Dolphins haven’t made it a secret that they are not too interested in being competitive in 2019, so trading one of their best players for draft picks isn’t too surprising. But here are three reasons that they may come to regret the move.

So the only thing that could help me cope with the loss of Tunsil is that Tua is left handed and therefore needs superior protection from his RT most importantly.

With that said I could see the players point in not playing as hard. But I’d like to think that instead of just quitting, they would more likely find reasons to go on IR to end their seasons prematurely. It would help this season serve as full season training camp where we cycle through a ton of younger players to see which are worth developing.

I think we need to stop with the speculation as well. Maybe there is a reason behind the Tunsil trade. Maybe he did not get along with the coaching staff, maybe he had an attitude problem, maybe he was late for a few meetings. We will know some details very soon... But we need to stop speculating what we do NOT know.

Can anyone name me one time the Patriots paid big money for an offensive lineman in the Belichick era?

This was probably coming for awhile. The need for an elite LT is diminished in today's NFL where pass rush is too crazy and the ball is coming out of QBs hands in under 3 seconds. It's better to have solid lineman across the board, primarily skilled at run blocking than it is to pay $20mil+ a year for Tunsil who isn't even a great run blocker.

Our line was bad with Tunsil on it. Don't you think it can be bad without him too? If that doesn't tell you that it's more important to spread the wealth, then nothing will.

For one brief moment the football gods had pity on us. I’m thankful that we had Tunsil for any time at all considering he shouldn’t have been available for us to draft in the first place. Perhaps this noble sacrifice will appease the football gods once and for all.

I don’t see a revolt happening.

If Miami’s roster was full of proven vets needing one or two more pieces to compete for the title and Grier made these moves I could see it, but definitely not the case.

A roster full of unproven players revolting is career suicide for those players. I’ll show Grier/Flores, I’ll screw me is one of the quickest ways for these guys to be bagging groceries next year.

Patriots OL as a whole are 29th in the NFL spending a little over $21 mil on their o-line this year.

Tunsil goes from $2.1 mil this year to $10.35 next year and only more expensive after that.

We've got like 24 1st year players on the current roster. Those guys are thanking God that they made it to the big time. They're focusing on keeping their jobs. I don't think they could give 2 cents about players who are no longer on the roster that they barely got to know in the first place.

Those are good points and something I hadn't considered. When he first came into the league I do think his practice habits were questioned. I haven't heard anything to that point since, though, and he's obviously played exceptionally well.

I guess if you look at the NE model as well they've never focused on "elite" type offensive lineman. They've had good ones and won plenty of games. Maybe it's just not something Flores values as much as other teams might. Like you said, we shall see. So much depends on what they are able to accomplish with those extra picks.

Without speculation, this would be a pretty boring forum, don't you think?

Even if we are discussing "known" facts, there would still be speculation as to the reasons.

As much as I liked Tunsil and wanted him extended the team obviously feels that his price was going to be too high.

And the windfall of picks from the desperate Texans was too much to pass up.

I loved Tunsil as a guard. I thought he was an above avg LT. In all likelihood, he would command the highest salary ever for a LT. There is just no way that you can turn down the deal Houston gave us. Plus, we may draft a left handed qb in Tua so the RT would be more important.

Patriot way, the offensive left tackle was never a high priority. Plus the Left Tackle usually was a better run blocker than pass blocker.
