There are only 2 teams that we need to depend on losing if the FINS run the table at 5-0. We need KC or DENVER and CINCI to lose 2 games each...

KC (7-4) has the following schedule left:

BENGALS
RAVENS
CHARGERS
RAIDERS
JAGS

Of the 5, I can see them losing to the RAVENS and CHARGERS. The RAIDERS may give them fits as well based on their play today against the CHARGERS... Also with 2 losses, we have the tie breaker

DENVER (7-4) has the following schedule left:

SEAHAWKS
CHARGERS
CARDINALS
BENGALS
49ERS

With the start of CULTER almost a given next week, I can see them losing at least 2... Probably the CHARGERS and BENGALS... This would give the BRONCOS a 7-5 conference record, which would be tied with us if we win out. I am not sure what the next tie breaker would be but I like our chances there...

CINCI (6-5) has the following schedule left:

RAVENS
RAIDERS
COLTS
BRONCOS
STEELERS

RAVENS and COLTS are chasing the first round buy with home field... No way they fall to the BENGALS... But stranger things have happened... Even still... The STEELERS will be looking for a spoil...

In the about scenarios, there will be 2 WC spots open to have... We would definitely get the 5th in this case... If only 2 of the 3 happens, we would still secure the 6th...

Now remember, this scenario only works if the FINS win their last 5 games... By doing so, they will eliminate the JAGS, BILLS and more than likely the JETS, from the playoffs... That is why we only need help from the upper 3 teams... And to help us, they need to lose...

The DOLPHINS must win at least 4 of their last 5 games, with must wins over JAX, NYY and BUFFALO. (Jacksonville=W, NE=L, BUFFALO=W, NYJ=W, INDI=W) PREDICED FINISH = 9-7

That leaves these six teams competing vs. Miami for two wildcard spots:

Denver (7-4)
KC (7-4)
JAX (6-5)
NYJ (6-5) Have tiebreakers cause they've beaten us
CINN (6-5)
BUFFALO (5-6) Have tiebreaker cause they've beaten us
MIAMI (5-6)

DENVER will beat out Miami for one spot by winning at least 3 or more of their last 5 games (Seattle=L, @San Diego=L, @Arizona=W, Cinci=W, and San Fran=W). PREDICTED FINISH = 10-6

KC will flop and lose 3 out of their last 5 games (@Cleveland=W, Baltimore=L, @San Diego=L, Oakland=W and Jacksonville=L), which would give Miami the head to head tiebreaker if they finish with the same record. PREDICTED FINISH = 9-7

JAX must not win more than 3 of their last 5 games with one of the losses being to the Dolphins (@Miami=L, Indi=L, @Tenn=W, NE=L, @KC=W) PREDICTED FINISH = 8-8

NYJ must not win more than 3 of their last 5 games with one of the losses being to the Dolphins (@Green Bay=L, Buffalo=L, @Minn=L, @Miami=L, Oakland=W) PREDICTED FINISH = 7-9

CINN must not win more than 3 of their last 5 games (Baltimore=L, Oakland=W, Indi=L, @Denver=L, Pitt=W) PREDICTED FINISH 8-8

BUFFALO must not win more than 3 of their last 5 (San Diego=L, @NYJ=W, Miami=L, Tenn=W, @Baltimore=L) PREDICTED FINISH = 7-9

At 9-7 the playoffs are still possible but we need a lot of help, at 10-6 they are practically guaranteed.

GO PHINS~!

We can tie with KC and still advance.
Cinci would beat us in most tie breaking situations if they go 10-6.

Buffalo helped us today.

Why aren't the Chargers in the race with the Colts for home field advantage, and as far as I am concerned they are the best team in the NFL right now. They have the same record as the Ravens at 9-2. Do the Chargers have a worse AFc record or tie breaker to the Ravens? I can't remember who the Chargers lost to, was it the Ravens in one of the losses?

The CHARGERS are in the race against the RAVENS unless the COLTS lose another... Right now the RAVENS have the edge with a 6-1 conference record and the CHARGERS have a 7-2... THe COLTS have a 7-0 and are also a game ahead of both teams... IF the playoffs were to start today, the RAVENS would get the buy...

Well done thread man, i was thinking about this all day, who we needed to lose to get in....

Only one team stands in the way of the Fins running the table, and that's the Fins. The talent is there and has always been since the beginning of the year. They just got to do it.

I hate to say your wrong.....BUT if we beat the jets and the jets win out they will have us in tie breakers. their division record would be 4-2 and would keep us out of any tie breaking possibilities.

first rule in tie breaking for 3 teams if 2 are from the same division.

1. Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tie breaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the two Wild-Card participants.

So we very much need the jets to have 2 more loses, one from us and one from any one else.

that rule would work in our favor if we were in a tie breaking situation with denver and KC. KC would knock out denver as pre the division rule and we would beat out KC because of HTH..... its way to early to be talking about this stuff. if we win our next 3 i will be glad to talk about it all day and night.

For now we just need to root against Denver, KC, Cinc, and the jets.

Agreed... However, I honestly beleive that the JETS will also lose to the VIKES or BILLS... Maybe both...

Dolphins need to win all 5 of their games to make the playoffs. I wish we were in the NFC.

UPDATED: 11-26-2006 After Sunday Night game.

There are 6 spots open in the AFC Playoff picture right?

1 from each division
and 2 wild cards right?

so:

NE wins East
BAL wins North
INDY wins South
S.D. wins West.

that leaves:

Denver (7-4) (has to play: SEA, S.D., ARI, CIN, S.F) (fin:9-7) (has to lose next 3 of 5)

KC (7-4) (has to play: CLE, BAL, S.D., OAK, JAX) (fin:9-7) (has to lose next 3 of 5)

JAX (6-5) (has to play: MIA, IND, TEN, NE, K.C.) (fin:9-7) (has to lose to us and one other game.)

CINN (6-5) (has to play: BAL, OAK, INDY, DEN, PIT) (fin:9-7) (has to lose next 2 of 5)

JETS (6-5) (has to play: G.B., BUF, MIN, MIA, OAK) (fin:9-7) (has to lose to us and one other game.)

Miami is now 5-6. <winning outright means 10-6>

We play:
JAX (this will help, but we always suck against JAX)
NE (TUFF GAME RIGHT HERE)
BUF (J.P. Lossman is a stud right now)
JETS (need this one)
INDY (might determine the season)

There's still a chance, but not lookn' good.

Well let's hope the Dolphins and Bills both beat the Jets. That will give each team a 3-3 divisional record. Thus eliminating the Jets if the Dolphins run the table. Buffalo still would play home to the Chargers and the Dolphins and go to Baltimore. So, there's a chance for at least 3 more losses for the Bills. Give the fact the Bengals have 4 tough games plus Oakland (you never know what you get with the silver and black), the possiblity remains for a wildcard.

I go about the playoffs as who is not in it. Its been a lil hard this year, but the way i see it is, if we just keep winning and have KC lose 2 (or 1 if we make it to 10-6); Cinci to lose 2 (they have a better division record than we do); if we beat Jacksonville and finish tied with them we get the spot, and we need to finish with a better record than the Jets. That being said, we have to have all the teams with the divisonal lead to remain the divisonal leader, or else they'll fall to the WC spot.

This is prolly the most craziest year of playoff scenarios ever, but its WAYY to early to really solidfy who needs who to lose. All i know is, we need to win, one game at a time.
