Simon Clancy and Alf Arteaga did a "Patron Shot" specifically regarding WR Isaiah Ford, what we had been hearing privately about the splash he made during the first week of camp, and what it might mean for the roster.

Chris Kouffman and Alf Arteaga did a separate "Patron Shot" specifically breaking down CB Torry McTyer, his college history, his athletic abilities, what he did during several preseason games as well as the regular season, why he has suddenly ascended to one of the lead positions in the fight for the starting job opposite Xavien Howard.

You can find both Patron Shots, as well as others from the Five Reasons Network, here:

Now for highlights of Episode 1.19 - Training Camp:
  • Alf Arteaga returns from Las Vegas to join Simon Clancy and Chris Kouffman, talking about the first week of Training Camp.
  • Adam Gase makes waves by stating emphatically that Albert Wilson is NOT a slot.
  • What this may mean about...WR Isaiah Ford?
  • How do we envision this works out? Particularly the pairing of Albert Wilson and Jakeem Grant in "12" personnel.
  • What narratives are forming already in the first week of camp?
  • Xavien Howard has turned into a monster, perhaps the best corner in Miami since Patrick Surtain and Sam Madison (31:00 minute mark). This was of course recorded last night (August 1st), BEFORE Xavien Howard had a 3-interception day the following morning (August 2nd).
  • Should we approach the rave reviews of DE Robert Quinn skeptically?
  • Should we approach the positive reviews of the DTs unit skeptically, for that matter?
  • And while we're on it, should we put much store in reports that these players are abusing the offensive linemen?
  • (Spoiler: Yes, Yes, No)
  • Who should the Dolphins make sure they extend EARLY so as to avoid a Jarvis Landry situation (54:45 minute mark). Hint: already mentioned him.
Lots of other stuff in there. Enjoy the listen.

Info on the Oline and Dline possible not being exactly as they look in camp, very interesting, always glean some good info from your podcasts

Nice hot-take on Davante Parker, although most of that info seemed to be kept under wraps???? Could this be traced back to Barry Jackson article in the off-season and Chris Chambers offer to train him? Somewhat slow start to camp...see you have him listed as a top performer today

Not sure I like running without a big receiver - My have something to do with my age 59 and impressions of what a receiving core should look like. As misplaced as they are.

Also noticed you thrown in the white towel early on the Tankersley- Lippett fight, which now McTyer has surprised everyone and join in.

How many receivers do we keep 5 or do they make room for 6?

Impressed by the reports out of camp on Ford, hope he gets healthy and is back out there fighting for a spot, would be nice to have 2 surprises that start to make a difference.

Another good podcast - thanks for the info

I genuinely enjoy the banter between Simon, CK and Alf. Simon is extremely knowledgable about the Dolphins for a Brit. I felt the discussion on the Defensive Line was off track. I just think that Coach Kocurek is being honest about the constant rotation of all his linemen. Talk about Wake and Quinn being the starters and fixating on them I expect is wrong. In addition to them, Charles Harris, Andre Branch and William Hayes will get a lot of reps. Similarly for the DTs with a steady rotation of Spence, Phillips, Godchaux and Taylor (who from reports is looking really good). It doesn't matter a damn who the starters are, everything is predicated on constant rotation of the personnel.

If you watched the preseason Hall of Fame game last night then you saw that defenders will no longer be allowed to:

1) Lower their pads (and head) in any way to try and tackle a guy.
2) Try and separate a receiver from the ball over the middle.

The Miami Dolphins just drafted a 6'6" tight end who was the best pass catching prospect at his position in the Draft. He will be catching balls over the deep middle against defenders who...will no longer be allowed to try and hit him to separate him from the football.

The Miami Dolphins also have put together a receivers unit with three Smurf/RAC players. Would-be tacklers will now be in danger of getting penalized if they try and bring their pads and their head down in order to square up and meet the Smurfs center of gravity.

Get ready:

Incidentally Louis Riddick has been whining about these rule changes the entire time, saying there will be an offensive explosion this year the likes of which the NFL has never seen. He has been saying the ONLY thing you can do as a defense to try and stem the tide is to PAY as many pass rushers as you can, guys that can pressure and hit and sack the quarterback.

Miami will pay DE Cameron Wake, DE Robert Quinn, DE Andre Branch, and DE William Hayes a total of $32.6 million cash in 2018, one year after drafting DE Charles Harris in the 1st round.

Alot of very good points here... What I'd really like to know is... Was this intentional? and If so, who's idea was it? Who in the organization was looking foward and built this strategy?
