The technology in recent days has changed things for sure. Back in the "good old days" I would have rather gone to a game live, but nowadays I'm not so sure. For one the cost of going to game has gone up significantly. For the price of going to 8 live games you can build yourself a state-of-the-art mancave with a slick HD TV, a nice leather couch, BBQ outside, have all your friends over with the best seat in the house(no unobstructed views), and no sitting around in traffic. You get all the channels conveniently lined up from 704-715 and they even throw in a red zone channel and a fantasy player tracker. What's more, is that this investment doesn't depreciate to absolutely nothing after the season is over.
There are some sports that are still better live, but I find it harder and harder to make that case for football anymore.
Football is a great sport to watch live but if you have a 55" 1080p HD LED TV hanging on the wall with the bomb surround sound system with Sunday Ticket in the cold A/C . . . that is just hard to beat. It also helps when the 12 pack of beer you bought costs the same as the one beer you would buy at the game.
Still its good to go to a live game but I think "season ticket" sales are down not only because of the economy but because of the evolution of high tech devices and how they make the experience a great one. Hell if they get 3d into its fullest potential I can only imagine how thats gonna be.
