Oh, it's bleacher report. That explains it.

"The Dolphins allowed seven defensive players to leave in free agency, including Chris Clemons, Paul Soliai, Chris Owens and Nolan Carroll.

None of these weaknesses were addressed in the NFL draft, though they added Louis Delmas at safety and Cortland Finnegan at corner in free agency, which should will help.

The problem is that help could be minimal, as Delmas is often hurt and Finnegan is coming off a very poor season which might point to a decline."

Who the hell is Chis Owens?

I wondered the same...

Delmas....often hurt?

He played 98% of the defensive snaps for the Lions last season....

The best thing for our defense, is our offense's ability to stay on the field.

Glad im not the only person who said.... Who the **** is Chris Owens?

One thing i do not understand is... Why we let so many defensive guys go for no reason. Carroll and Clemons didnt need replacements. They were serviceable players who played very well last season. Would have rather not have taken a chance on the two guys we signed as their replacements, and used the money we saved on them to fix our RT position in Free agency.

Then we could have went BPA with our first round pick. Could have gone Dix/Dennar/Verrett/Buccannon in the first instead who were all rated higher. Could end up being busts who knows, but rather draft skill positions and sign proven corn then vice versa.

Well I'd surely hope it doesn't turn out this way. IIRC our defensive payroll is in the top 10 of the league, or at least it was last year. Whereas our offensive payroll is/was near the bottom.

Part of the reason I would have fired Kevin Coyle before Mike Sherman is because Coyle had so much more to work with. His tendency to be too cute by half is like some kind of terrible nervous tic.

Stop stunting your line every play, Kevin. Stop it.

Sincerely,

TheWalrus.

Chris Owens will be missed. In all my years as a Dolphins fan I can't recall him ever missing a tackle. I can't believe we're going forward without his 1 tackle.

I think our secondary improved.

I think our front 4 will be just as good.

I think our Lbs have not been improved and they were the worst last year. Hickey better add a quality MLB to the team or Defense will be hurting in the run defense again. I think our Pass defense could be top 10 and run defense could be bottom 10. Teams like Seattle and SF will physically beat the hell out of our team.

Having said that I think phins could be wildcard team this year.

Our LBs are pathetic. We have a black hole at the number 2 corner spot. We're banking on Jamar Taylor stepping up or Cortland Finnegan, a 30 year old player coming off of the worst season of his career, to play that spot. Our FS is a question mark if he can stay healthy, last year was his first time playing 16 games since entering the league. We lost Paul the Wall and signed a replacement that isn't half the player that Soliai was. Wake is another year older. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if our defense was in the bottom 5 of the league.

Defense will not not be 32 at worst in the twenties could be top 10 Defense with a top 12 offense.

The irony of that is as I watched all last season all I could think about as it pertained to the defense was getting rid of Carroll and Clemons. Addition by subtraction for sure.

Louis Delmas for Chris Clemons
Cortland Finnegan for Nolan Carroll
Earl Mitchell for Paul Soliai

I don't see the problem here. we swapped players out we didn't "lose 7 starters". roflmao we flipped 3 guys over. Soliai didn't play 3 downs here, Mitchell odrick and starks is just as good.
Finnegan is a seasoned vet to go with Grimes, what 2 better Vet corners would you want mentoring your youngsters in (Aikens who was just drafted, Davis and Taylor who we drafted high last year, Wilson who has steadily improved each season and plays every position)

We are handcuffed at LB and everyone knows that. Its not financially possibly to turn those few over, but they will be.

We also have Dion Jordan who will be contributing more.

I see a better front 4 coming this season, potentially the best front 4, including depth, in the NFL.

We have 2 savy scrappy quick twitch ball hawking corners who can jump and leap and tackle. we have 2 monster headhunters at safety. The giants one a superbowl with NOBODY at LB. it works. and we will be in nickel 70% of the time anyway, so only 2 LBs and we now have 4 young guys to compete for that nickel spot.

Well we are also 32nd in their power rankings. We have the 21st offense to go with the amazing 32nd ranked D. Ah and Chris Owens, a 7th string corner. Which goes to show you the writing skills and research Bleacher Report goes through to write articles.
