So if in fact we are switching to the 4-3 as our "main" package. (I understand we are running a hybrid). What will the front 4 look like?

I'm guessing it will be

DE - Wake
DT - Soliai
DT - Starks
DE - Vernon

or does Odrick get slotted at DE?

Also what will the LB's look like?

I've seen

OLB - Dansby
MLB - Misi
OLB - Burrnet

or does Guyton beat out Misi?

Thoughts?

I don't see it that way, IMO the defense will be set like this:

LE - Wake
DT - Soliai
DT - Starks
RE - Odrick

SAM- Guyton or Mising
MIKE - Dansby
WILL - Burnett

Good question, I'm not sure about whether Vernon or Odrick is gonna start at end on first and second down, but I think the 3rd down pass rushing package is probably gonna look something like this.

DE- Wake
DT- Odrick
DT- McDaniel
DE- Vernon

Thats how I see it on running downs. On passing downs, Odrick shifts inside, Soliai comes out and Vernon comes in.

I tend to think it'll be:

run downs:
Wake
Starks
Soliai
Odrick

Pass downs:
Wake
Starks
Odrick
Vernon

But the thing to remember is that all of the guys will rotate constantly.

I think the last part is the key. I think the Giants' success getting pressure with their front four have set the tone for how teams will try to operate. They say it's a copycat league, and having 6-7 guys that can rotate with some that can play both outside and inside depending on the situation has been extremely effective for them. I'd love to see us push the same way. I'm not sure if Vernon can play inside at all on clear passing downs, but Odrick certainly can.

IMO the wrinkle or flex will come from the way they align Wake. I think they will have a base of Odrick - Solai - Starks, much like a 3-4, but Wake as DE lining up left/right depending on matchups.

I think its too early to give up on Misi. I can see him playing 1st and 2nd down and coming out for Guyton in passing situations.

I think the big question is Sean Smith. In Cinci, they always had good tackling CB's in base set, Leon Hall, Jonathan Joseph & Nate Clements. Now we have signed Richard Marshall. There were rumors before draft we were looking to ship Smith. I think Smith will be the odd one out.

base

Odrick - Solai - Starks - Wake

Burnett - Dansby - Misi

Marshall - Jones - Clemons - Davis

passing downs

Wake - Odrick - Starks - Vernon

Burnett - Dansby

Marshall - Smith - Jones - Clemons - Davis

He played inside some in college.

Kaddu may be in there on passing downs as a blitzer and coverage LB. Maybe Dansby and Kaddu on passing downs with 4 lineman

You guys were saying that we got weaker at the DL because we lost Langford and Merling who were ok. Langford was very good against the run but doesn't get to the qb. I believe the DL is still big strenght with Solia back. I predict that Randy Starks will benefit the most on the 4-3 defense and will have a pro-bowl type year.

I actually think Starks might take the biggest step back. He never looked great in a 4-3 before he came to the phins.

I could see this line up with wake sometimes taking his hands off the ground and switching to a 3-4

DE - Odrick
DT - Soliai
DT - Starks
DE - Wake

SAM - Misi/Kaddu
MIKE - Dansby
WILL - Burrnet/Guyton

This on pass situations

DE - Vernon
DT - Odrick
DT - Starks
DE - Wake

SAM - Misi/Kaddu
MIKE - Dansby
WILL - Burrnet/Guyton

And this if they just want to come out of the huddle in 3-4

DE - Odrick
DT - Soliai
DT - Starks

SAM - Vernon/Misi/Kaddu
MIKE - Dansby
WILL - Burrnet/Guyton
RUSH - Wake

You could rotate McDaniel in and out of any of these lines and they might move Misi inside to back up Dansby and have Guyton/Kaddu at the SAM

As far as the d line is concerned your gonna see wake mcdaniel solia oddrick starks and now vernon. When we play a 43 d I think your gonna see dansby play Sam and Burnett in the middle...Misi will be the will in this 43. He basically play like a will in nolans d. I think when we do some 34 looks Misi will be moved inside with Burnett and you see wake and dansby outside.
