Hi boyz, I'm a Fins fan and I'm writing from Italy. I have had a discussion with one friend of mine dealing what kind of defense we will play next season. Even if the Defensive Coordinator hasn't changed he thinks that we'll play basicly a 3-4 defense with Jason Taylor playing LB, while i believe that the Fins will play a 4-3 defense with Taylor playing DE and Joey Porter LB on the opposite side....
Am I right or is there some chance we change our defensive system?

I think we'll see a lot of each scheme just like last year. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"!

The defense the Dolphins play is basically a 4-3 under with J.T. standing up. It looks like a 3-4 but has alot of 4-3 properties.

that was Nick Sabans defense also...i think we will run more 3-4 now with Capers running the show

Capers wants a 3-4 defense I would think . . . but with the Line being so great last year and the lack of a great OLB to compliment Channing and Zack . . . we seemed to be more effective in the 4-3 . . . but with the addition of Joey Porter, this signifies that we will be a 3-4 teams, that may have a few hybrid looks . . . but we will see more 3-4 than we did last year, I would say 90/10 to 3-4/4-3

I do not see JT playing LB full-time. I think we will be mixing it up like last year.

QUESTION:
(On how much more he plans to run a true 3-4 scheme as opposed to a hybrid that was run last year)

DOM CAPERS
– “I like doing what we did last year. To me, you adapt what you’re doing to the players you have. You can’t pound a square peg into a round hole. I think that what we tried to do last year was maximize the people who we had.

I think that running the scheme we have, it’s a multiple scheme to where we’ve got different options. I think it helps you in terms of different style offenses to prepare for them, and I think it makes your scheme more difficult for opposing offenses to prepare for, if you have the ability to get into two or three different fronts and schemes.

The players , to me, dictate that.â€Â

Dom Capers is strictly a 3-4 guy. I know last year we played a mix, but I believe that was simply to get the 3-4 started. Chances are we will see a predominantely 3-4 line up this year with Jason Taylor lining up pretty much where he wants like last year. He is that good.

Exactly. Also, Taylor and Porter give us the option of moving people around. I think we will see Taylor rushing the QB off of left end with Porter on the right side every now and then. In fact, I am hoping we try that on a few zone blitzes just like Pittsburgh pulled on us when Porter intercepted Culpepper last year. Porter and Taylor give us so many options this year. It really is going to be scary for opposing QBs.

He's run a 3/4 most recently but he is not strictly a 3/4 guy.

He will use what his players are best suited for, which is mostly 4/3 sets, mixed with some 3/4 5/2 hybrids. I'd take that to the bank because that's exactly what he said during a radio interview .......
