I have heard coaches talk about the turn around that occurs on a teams roster from one year to the next. However, does anyone recall ever hearing a number as high as 49%?

Thats right, the Dolphins will have just about as many new faces in the locker room in Week 1 as familiar one's.

I think this shows us (not that we didn't know) just how far the talent on this team had fallen through the poor drafts and poor signings of the Dave Wannstedt era.

Its Week One and I won't see the deer in headlights roaming the sidelines or the floater shotputing balls with his substandard arm. That alone puts a smile on my face.

Let the Ronnie Brown / Nick Saban Era begin.

I bet Tennessee could boast a similar number, as could the Niners from a couple years ago. Those teams ran into cap problems and had massive cuts to their roster as a result. But 49% seems very high for a team that didn't have cap problems.

I'm willing to go as high as 54% if it means Feeley is gone.

I would be hesitant to say the turnover is due exclusively to lack of talent on the old roster. I would say that most of the turnover is actually due to the fact that we are completely changing our playing style; both on offense and on defense. We have new coaches and new schemes on both sides. Saban clearly wants a different style of D-lineman and linebacker. I also think you can attribute some of the moves as future salary cap positioning.

You are a fool if you think we are not in cap trouble. Ronnie, JT, ZT, madison and feeley will count around 30 mi. against the cap next year. It's not nearly as bad as the niners or the titans, but it is also no where near the cap numbers of the best team (eagles).

My point was that we had that much turnover without severe cap problems coming into this season. And given their cap numbers, I'd be surprised if Feeley or Madison were back next year. Maybe ZT, too.

Every year is different - we don't even know what the cap # will be next year. What we do know is that IF Miami wants a certain player you can almost always fit him in with the right signing bonus and length of contract. What has happened and will continue into next year is the adding of inexpensive young guys to challenge and replace older guys. You lose a St. Clair at 1+ mil and replace him with an Alabi or Berger for example at 1/3 the price. Madison will have to be all pro this year to keep his high cap # but I wouldn't rule him staying with Miami. He may like the system and think they are on the way up and will redo his deal to stay. You never know - Saban has some magic with players that they want to play for him.
