And Miami punts in the 3rd qtr down 21-13. NE comes out, takes their opening 2nd half drive and scores killing all the momentum Miami had at halftime. Miami tries to answer but only gets 9 yards in 3 plays. Why not go for it on 4th down and 1 and try to gain back the momentum by taking such a risk? Did philbin not learn anything from Harbaugh last week? Sometimes you have to take risks to keep a game from getting away from you. But Philbin has no stones as a coach. So Miami punts anyways, and NE gets a FG to go up 24-13 and get even more momentum. Next possession Tannehill throws a pick and NE runs away from there as the momentum continued to snowball towards NE.

Anyone else think Miami should have went for it there?

The play calling on that drive was abysmal. I laughed when it was 2nd an 4 and they ran that idiotic screen that netted 1 yard. Then a run on 3rd and 3. They would have gone shotgun draw or that little toss they always run and failed on 4th down.

Harbaugh in the exact same spot last Sunday went for it. And it paid off.

Philbin is sack less.

A coach coaching scared is not a coach.

Weak decision.

Coaches need to have a sense of when a game is close to getting out of hand. Kind of like a QB having pocket awareness. After NE scored to go up 21-13 and forced a 4th and 1 that Miami punted on I had a feeling that it would only get worse from there. And of course it did.

At least it wasn't another toss play.

It would have been very risky to go for it that deep in Dolphins territory. Don't make it and it's an easy TD drive for the Pats...however, just about everyone on this board knew Patriots had momentum after the TD and kicking it back to them would probably result in another TD...defense held them to a FG...regardless, probably should have gone for it...although not sure I would trust Lazor to make a solid call there.

Admittedly, Philbin is not the best or ballsiest coach. There's plenty of decisions to slam him for, but that's not one of them. Miami was only down buy a TD and a two point conversion at that point early in the 3rd Qtr. Going for it from their own 29 at that point would just be dumb. If Miami doesn't make it the Pats are already in decent field goal position without gaining a yard.

NE had all the momentum, they were going to score regardless of where they got it. If you can't pick up 1 yard on a QB sneak, like everyone does on Miami then that's really pathetic. Philbin has no faith in any of his guys. He lacks so much faith that he doesn't even run the no huddle like he promised because he doesn't trust the players execution.

They should fire the kicker and not sign one until 2015...Points win games...Td's are worth more than Fg's so score Td's or die trying.

****, harbaugh went for it last week in his own territory. Phailbin is a ***** coach.

I can understand not going for it on 4th and 1 at your own 29, even though I think that the situation DID warrant a desperate gamble.

That said, I felt there was a much bigger indictment of the coaching staff early in the game. With the team all but eliminated, playing against the Patriots @ Foxboro, our coaches elected to run an outside toss on 3rd and 6 in long FG range. On 4th and 2, they elected to send out the field goal unit.

To me, that is exactly what people complained about as "Sparanoball" for years here. That sort of play-calling is fine against an inferior opponent at home, but not against the Patriots on the road. Joe coached the game as if he were the favorite to win against a patsy.

In a random game, yeah, most times its dumb to go for it there. But I knew damn well in my gut we were up **** creek when we punted it there. Just a gut feel. Cant always go by the standard operating procedure.

Philbin has no balls, no imagination, no leadership skills....he is as bland as they come. You look at great coaches like Lombardi and Shula...they did not put up with mediacrity. Philbin has to go.

I knew the season was lost when we did that. After seeing what a 4th and 1 conversion can do I thought Philbin might wise up. Instead we ignored a favorable chance of getting a yard and gave it back to a HOF QB who had suddenly found fire.

i think everyone except philbin knew it was over after that punt.
