Stats wise Duante is one of the best QB's of all time. His high completion % is undeniable. But it seems to me the fins are already putting him in the position that HE has to win the games. This is a very tough assignment for healthy QB in a very familiar offense. So given the current situation it is understandable he has struggled especially in the 4th quarter.
But the true mark of a great QB is the comeback ability. (think Marino/Elway) My question to you fin heads with all the stats is....
In Duante's career how many 4th quarter comebacks does he have in his resume? And how does it compare to today's "ELITE" QBs?
Thanks and GO FINS!!!!!

I think the interception and fumble he caused put him in a position where he had to win it. If he can just eliminate those big mistakes, it will be alright.

He had 18 in Minny.

(I really just took an estimate of how many games he's played and divided by 4, I have no clue how many really).

Good point...

It is a good question about how many comeback wins. I have seen Daunte's 4th quarter stats posted in finheaven, but stats can be scewed. Daunte's 83 yards passing and a TD pass against the Bills on the final drive actually makes it look like he played OK. Anyone without a "man crush" on Daunte knows the stats don't tell the real story.

the last drive we scored with about 2 mins left. your telling me that game is out of reach. 16 pts is 2 td's and 2 conversions. anything is possible, so i wouldnt exactly call that garbage time.

Let me tell you about one "comeback" Daunte had in MN. Last year vs. The Packers at the Metrodome. The Vikes were down by 2 TD's going into halftime cuz Daunte was playing pretty much like he did last Sunday. They regroup at halftime and tie the score with time running out at the end of the game. Daunte leads a drive to, oh I think the Packers 45 where it stalled.
Tice decides to bring in the FG unit & try a Hail Mary FG to avoid OT. It's a 54 yard attempt and to everyone's surprise Edinger made it (barely). My point is, they barely eeked out a win, against the Packers who won a grand total of 4 games last year. This is vintage Daunte. Make it look good on paper against a really bad team. On the positive side, even Daunte should be able to handle the Titans, so look forward to your 1st win on Sunday.

True the game wasn't out of reach, but his numbers were put up against what is called a prevent defense. The purpose is to allow yards in exchange for time off the clock. Daunte, as almost all QBs do, put up good numbers against that defensive scheme.

However, his TD to Chambers was a circus catch and not a well thrown ball. Then on the 2 point conversion he tried to force the ball into tight coverage when Welker was open (would have been his second read).

Did you watch the game?

yes i was at the game in the endzone where we scored our td. the 2pt conversion was broken up by a rookie safety whitner...good defensive play is what that was.

So you must have seen that Welker would have been the smart decision on that play.

i dont actually recall who that ball was thrown to, though it was right in front of me and i remember talking to bills fans about whitner making the play. i wasnt standing up like everyone else at that point, i was talking to the people behind me, so it was difficult for me to see. who was the intedned and where was welker. i can tell you that the play was designed to go to whomever it did pep rolled a bit and you can tell that it was meant to go where it did if that helps. buffalo scored on a similar play earlier./

I saw this game. The packers were killing Daunte in the first half by just sending the blitz and putting pressure on Daunte. Second half they didn't blitz once, they played cover 2 man under. Basically a prevent defense. Stupid Jim Bates, I was fired up over this game last year and had a post about it in Finheaven.

People were praising his comeback ability but if Green Bay kept up their gameplan they would have crushed the Vikings. That is against Green Bay which had an awful defense last year.

As for Daunte should be able to handle the Titans, we all said the same things about the Bills. Hopefully he'll finally do something.

All good points. And even though I think even Daunte can handle Tenn., I sure as hell wouldn't put any money on it.

Stats are stats, they look good on paper but they don't get you wins necessarily. Daunte to me does not look 100% and held
onto the ball a lot longer than he should have a few times and that
became costly. There was plenty of times Culpepper could have ran but he didn't. I felt some of that was the knee, the
not scrambling and running more. He also could have thrown
the ball out of bounds a few times and didn't. 4th quarter comebacks.....Daunte needs to have a 2 game losing streak
comeback right now. :dolphins:

That wasn't a prevent defense on the last drive, Buffalo just didn't really blitz like they had the whole game, they were in a regular 4-3.
