5 teams that could trade for Miami Dolphins Xavien Howard

Jacksonville, RB James Robinson and a 2nd for X sounds awfully good to me.

Ofcourse one of those Lions 1st round picks also sounds nice.
Man, that first option makes a lot of sense. that might be pick #33. Can you imagine if they were willing to trade a first and Robinson and we got the first pick in the draft next year???

Right. And I think the odds of getting similar value for X. Howard aren't very high. Simply tough to match that kind of talent.

Draft picks are nice, but not guaranteed to hit. Player for player trade, who knows? People are mentioning Zaven Collins, but it would have to be more than that IMO.
Zaven Collins and Chandler Jones?

Arizona is in win-now mode, has money, and badly needs a shutdown corner... but I doubt that they'd put Collins on the table. They'll offer Chandler Jones, but he's an ever bigger problem.

Plus, he's on the downside of his career. Any other players the Cardinals might be willing to trade that would interest Miami?

Honestly, I don't know.

For a player of X's stature, even with his issues... you would need to get a pretty good player in return. A recent #1 pick or a very talented starter is where the conversation starts.

I'd consider doing it for Collins. I've been very clear that I think we need one more edge to really have enough there. We'd pick up a young, 1st rounder who is cheap and under contract, and shed an older player who's becoming a serious headache. You lose a little in a deal like this, unfortunately.

I wouldn't touch Chandler Jones... He's overpaid, overaged, and on an expiring contract.

It would put a lot of pressure on Iggy to take his game to a respectable level, but that might not necessarily be a bad thing. Although, going up against the likes of Josh Allen without Howard isn't a pleasant idea.

Then again, I liked Collins quite a bit coming out. I do think he's a great fit for what Flores does on defense. A little bit of Jason Taylor in his game.

He's almost the same exact size/weight as Chandler Jones... There's no doubt in my mind that they drafted him to replace Jones, who will surely become an FA at the end of the year. That means... they won't want to move him; they have a long-term plan for him, but if 'zona comes calling... he's the guy I ask for. I'd tell them multiple picks or Collins... then let them think about it.

The way I see it…..

If Howard actually said what he said on that podcast (I haven’t listened to it), Grier has little choice but to ship him. You can’t have 1 player be openly defiant of what you’re building here and just let it be. I think the more X talks, the more he’s painting himself into a corner,
I don’t take issue with what X said on the podcast about wanting to show the team up for drafting a guy in the first round and signing a guy to a bigger contract. He was essentially saying that he was motivated to show the team that made a mistake betting against him. That’s a good thing. I think what he wants is for the team to say, “sorry we doubted you. You are our number 1 CB and we are going to make you the third highest paid CB because you are our guy.”

Now if the team does that, which is what I think they should do, and X doesn’t seem satisfied or wants to play in a different market. Then you go ahead and let him know that we are going to find the best deal for the team and make only that move if it meets the team’s guidelines for compensation. Otherwise he sits. He will not dictate any of the terms of a trade and he’s not under any circumstances going to be released. And I would not accept less than a first round pick in the upcoming draft and a second round pick next year or a first in 2022 as well.

I follow the Fins closer than my diet lol and I've never once heard Xavien isn't happy in Miami!

He's not getting traded, this is our front office first real management challenge as a potential contender. It's a hiccup every regime realizes. We have drafted well, we are developing players, adding the team, we have started to win, we are not yet there.

Now we face an unhappy player with HIS "feelings" of respect. He did something last year that no DB has done in what 2 decades? Along with 10 turnovers, he had 21 pass deflections, 2nd best pass percentage and qbr against. He is elite in every facet of being a DB, with the lone exception being run support.

This is a game where at any moment anyone can get hurt, potentially career ending hurt, remember RT17 appeared to hurt his career at the time by running out of bounds in summer camp! He knows his contract is a top contract, he just doesn't have anymore guarantees in the contract. Again, his career could end at any moment, so as a business man, he needs to put self-interest for the rest of his life above anyone's opine.

I believe the triumvirate of our front office of Grier-Mckenzie-Allen will work this out. No capital short of what the Rams gave for Ramsey would suffice. Especially in our situation. The jags were going nowhere at that time. They just signed Foley, who got hurt game 1 throwing a TD pass. Minshew-mania was the talk of the city everywhere, well along with Ramsey's obnoxious behavior leading up to that point...I live here in jax....

We are a team on the rise to contention, a superstar X-Factor coach, a young QB, an explosive group of weapons, a top 5 defense potentially, there is zero reason to get more draft capital. Pay your guy who the whole NFL talking world knows of on our defense. It won't take much more than he is already taking. Lock him up, pay Dat man in Deion's voice. He helps us, he is not a bad guy, he doesn't get in trouble, there's little noise surrounding him other than his want for more. Guess what? The want for more is natural for competitors. You aren't paying his salary. Lock up the guy who makes us better with, than without!!
Very nice post! I agree with most of it except for the part that the Fins MUST keep him.

What Howard is basically doing here is telling the Fins: I want more garenteed money on that contract, if you're not willing to do this, Im quite certain another team will. Its as simple as that. Its not team friendly and its all about him getting more garenteed money after a GREAT season.

I get that some people dont like that kind of attitude and would rather have a team filled with team first guys, hell Im somewhat part of that group. But there's no way Im going to judge someone in Howard's situation for the actions he is taking right now. I'd feel like a hypocrite calling someone selfish as he's trying to maximize revenue over his NFL career because it doesnt fit with my NFL team preference. If that makes any sense.
