I know how easy it is to get cranky about the loss. I found myself as the only Dolphins fan at Trophy's Sports Bar in San Diego, screaming at the TV in the far right corner.

I really do find some positives in this game, and it makes me feel better to think about them. Just a little better.

1) Jake Long - I bet that someone will add to his report card and analyze this game... Jake Long continues to impress me. He holds his blocks well, and seems to be getting better in pass protection. This is a player that is young, and is going to be a beast when he learns more technique and footwork.

2) Camarillo & David Martin - I think we had a good outing against Baltimore from our receivers and Martin. Camarillo did miss on making two plays, that he usually makes. You still have to give him credit, he is doing a lot more than is to be expected of what most teams would call PS material. David Martin made some nice grabs, and has proven himself as a reliable target in the passing game.

3) Joey Porter - OUR FRONT 7 CAN'T DO IT ALL. But Joey Porter sure continues to impress, pressuring the QB and making plays. You would think that setting up our team on 3rd and 17 or 3rd and 10 would be a recipe to get the ball back. Joey Porter still has another two years in him if he remains healthy. We will see him contributing when this team is a contender... when we have a better secondary:

4) 2009 Draft & Offseason for Secondary - It is very Parcellsesque (had to) to draft big guys with his high draft picks. He and Andy Reid are known for using his picks to build for a strong and dominant game in the trenches. We used this year to address this. Next year, I expect we will address our secondary, and guys like Andre Goodman will be where they belong: 3rd string or dimebacks. We will snag a free agent or score on a draft pick. There is no reason to think that Parcells / Ireland won't have success in bolstering our secondary.

5) 2009 Draft & Offseason for WR - This makes our whole team dynamic, as players like Camarillo can make even more of an impact when they are in the slot. Adding a true 6'3'' + 210 lb. + 37'' Vertical + 4.4 #1 will make this offense special.

I really enjoyed watching the game today, even though I hated seeing us lose. It is still exciting to be a Dolphins fan, and we were at least competitive. It sure is a relief over last year.

We have tons of young talent, lots of cap room, and one of the proven best football minds in history.

Would you guys rather be the Cowboys now, or us?

We are getting there -- what positives can you spin from the gut-wrenching loss?

We are almost there.
Amen! Finally, a great thread where someone knows what they're talking about.

Everyone is knocking on Parcells & Ireland for not going after a DB in the draft or free agency. I really think they didn't like what their options were, and find the team is in better position to build from the inside out. We will get upgrade at DT for depth (Ferguson's), which combined with Langford / Merling / Roth / Porter makes for a formidable front. But I am confident that we address the secondary heavily next year. If you have a better secondary, it also increases the amount of sacks and pressure you can get from your front 7.

Problem is, we heard all that after we went 9-7 in 2005, how we were headed in the right direction, blah blah blah

I agree with some of your post but cornerback isnt the reason we cant stop the run and cant stop a screen pass. We give up so many 3rd and longs it pathetic.

There is no doubt that the offensive line and defensive line is better this year, but this was not a good game for either unit. The area where we need to improve next year is the backers. We can pickup a good backer in the 2nd round next year.

Was there somebody else watching the game other than you at least?
I hate it when Im the only one. I was watching a soccer game at the local bar once, and was the only one watching, it was like a Wednesday afternoon, and people were just there eating, not even watching anything, and there's a goal scored, and I just yell, GOOOOOOOOOOOL! like a maniac, and the whole bar starts staring at me like I was a real maniac.

I think we had a good game. We pressured pretty good, and came pretty close to getting a few sacks, but their OLine was just really good. They almost never broke down. They clearly gameplanned really good for this game. Our pass protection was really good as well. Our run protection, idk, it would seem as they did bad since we couldn't run for much, but our RB's were just running backwards.

And I continue to say the same thing about CP. He either makes a perfect pass, or he throws it to the middle of nowhere. But most of the times, he throws a perfect pass. I think today we had our first drops of the season, which is a good problem to have.

Our redzone offense was just horrendous though. You need to know where you are at, and what you need to do to score. The WILDCAT is a BIG PLAY OFFENSIVE PLAY, not a 2 and GOAL play.

It was a really fun game to watch, and I cant wait to get at it again next week

I love this team. I love that we already doubled last years win total in the first 4 games. I came from California to see this game live. It's frustrating to lose games that we could have easily won. A play or two swing. Had a blast though. I am a little bugged that there was so many empty seats. I mean, regardless of the record, this city has a storied team and to come all the way from Riverside California and see empty orange seats everywhere was a bit disappointing. It's almost like the city has given up or is just spoiled. C'mon Miamians! Get out there and support this team!!!

The thing is that
ONE: THERE ARE TONS OF OTHER THINGS TO DO IN MIAMI(BEACH, ETC.)
In Green Bay, and other places, football is not only the best thing to do, but it's the only thing to do.
Also, WE HAVE A HUGE STADIUM! If you look at other stadiums, there's still a few empty seats. If you put those fans in Dolphins Stadium, there would be as many empty seats as we have.
ALSO: A lot of the people down here come from other places. As you may have noticed, you saw a lot of Steelers, Patriots, Bears, Jets, and obviously Ravens jerseys today.

And they just dont change teams when they move(who will with the way we've been playing these last couple of years)?

Excellent post! Wish more of our fellow finheaven members shared the same positive attitude.

In this league somebody once said that NFL stands for not for long. It's put up or shut up. I'm not looking for progress but rather results. You never know when your prized recruits will suffer year ending/career ending injuries so to count on them in the future to be the savior may turn out to be a pipedream. Win and win now baby!!!

Thanks for the comments on the post.

I don't necessarily agree with the horibble D-line play -- we lost Ferguson for a lot of the game. One year to get better in the depth / linebacker / CB, we are on track.

This is NOT SOME FIX like Satan or RandyCam. This is a systematic way to build a winning franchise. I'm not saying we played great, but we were competitive through the entire game. Throw in a few playmakers on defense, we don't mess up those third and longs.

We have depth at QB that we've never had, and a ton of young talent. I don't feel the same cautious optimism that I have always felt with the new staffs. We are talking about people that have a proven track record.

I have had fun watching Dolphins football this year, which is a hell of a lot more than I can say for last year.
