5 Things that need to happen for the Dolphins to reach the Super Bowl

Mike Pouncey is the critical part to this entire equation, or, more likely, Anthony Steen.

I added my list of 5 things that need to happen in the article's comments section. I'm sure that people will hate my opinion!

Good list. I'd add getting off to faster starts. For whatever reason, even when Miami starting winning, the team seemed to always start slow.

Lot of long shots on that list. Brady getting hurt? Cmon. 20 TDs combined for Parker and Julius isn't happening either lol.

I don't want Brady injured.

When we beat New England decisively, at their house, and with all their guys, then we can talk Super Bowls.

If Brady gets hurt and we do take it all, all we will hear is how it never would have happened had Brady not been injured.

Remember 1972? Griese broke his leg. Earl is the one that took us most of the way.

So I don't think Brady, as excellent as he is, makes or breaks New England.

I want to crush those guys hands down. That means doing it with all their guys.

Julius got 12 Tds twice in a season. I wouldnt discount it

I wouldn't mind seeing Brady get injured and his career ended. Not because I think it helps our chances - they were just as lethal w Garappolo in there - but because I'm just sick of seeing him on my TV screen. Enough already.

1) Faster starts both in the season and in games. Last year we came out 1-4 and played from behind in most games. In most cases that will get you killed. We overcame that and still made the Play Offs but let's not press our luck. 2)Health-we simply can't get decimated with season ending injuries again. As stated earlier Pouncey's health is major to the success of the offense.3) Get big time production from the Tight End position. It's been too long since we had play makers at TE. Thomas brings a big rep to town, ring, Pro Bowls, success under Gase in Denver, we must see it on the field. 10 TDs for Thomas would be huge. 4) Stop the run-that's right! Actually line up and stop the damn run like a team that intends to make some noise in the play offs. If we get gouged up the gut we're not going anywhere. Maybe 97 will surprise. 5) Burke-First time coordinator, we have to just assume Gase has this covered with the right guy. He better be right because there were people out there we could have hired to be Defensive Coodinator, big names, but we went with the in house promotion.

Here's what needs to happen IMHO.

1. We secure a Wild Card spot and make the playoffs. Decent chance of this happening.

2. Another AFC team beats the Patriots, maybe the Raiders. Much less likely, but possible.

3. We stay/get pretty healthy for the postseason (Hello TJ McDonald!) And go on a hot streak and reach the AFC Championship where our balanced offense and sometimes very good defense wins away from home to prove that we are committed and capable in Gase's system. If we get there and are healthy, yes, I think we have a decent shot at winning in Pittsburgh, Oakland or wherever.

4. Gase, Wake, Jones, Tannehill, Landry and the rest of the leaders understand that motivation is not an issue, but confidence, over-excitedness, and lack of focus are the only real things to fear. Our leaders keep us confident, even-keeled, and focused on doing our jobs. If we get this far, those are the things we will need to do.

5. Gase and the coaching staff will need to prepare a good game plan for a lesser known opponent, with wrinkles saved for the second half to give us the edge and allow us to finish the game and season strong. Very possible if we reach this game.

Yeah, this is not as dramatic as other analyses, but this is a more realistic possibility. Am I expecting a Super Bowl run in the 2017-2018 season? No, definitely not. But I'm also not completely ruling it out in preseason. Right now, I'm predicting we secure another Wild Card spot. Once in the playoffs, anything can happen.

1. Hell to freeze over
2. You get the point

Pouncey needs to stay healthy. Ajayi has to stay healthy. Tannehill has to play as well as he did the second half of last season and stay healthy. McMillan has to be a DRoTY candidate. Timmons has to prove the doubters wrong that he has lost a step. #6 somebody has to take commabd of the LG spot.
