53 Man Roster Predictions:

Frerotte has started just 6 games the last 4 Years it would be good for the season if Feeley can beat him.

His "best" years are 7 years behind him.

Why does everyone have Feeley ahead of Frerotte on the depth chart? Saban said it was going to be an open competion. I think Frerotte will win the starting job. He knows Linehans system, and has more experience than AJ Feeley. I highly doubt AJ Feeley can beat out Gus Frerotte in training camp.
mine is not done like a depth chart. Feeley should beast out Gus.

The only thing Travis Minor should be carrying in Miami is water to the other players. He has a slim chance of making the team because he was a decent 3rd down RB, but his lack of skills and even great speed (which is what we all thought he had) was apparent last year. I will be more shocked if he makes the team than if he doesn't.

In England we say that the water carrier has an important part to play

Players in parenthesis () show the other positions they can back up. Players with an asterisk * are practice squad players. Players with the slash / between them means OR and not both of them. IE. Either Gilmore OR Davis will be my #5 WR.

QB: Feeley, Frerotte, Rosenfels
RB: Brown, Gordon, Morris, Harris
FB: Evans, (Morris), *Moa
WR: Chambers, Booker, Thompson, Newsome, Gilmore/Davis
LT: McIntosh, Carey, Pape
LG: James, Whitley, (Cook)
C: McKinney, (Hadnot), (Smith)
RG: Hadnot, (Carey), Cook
RT: McDougal, Smith, *Alabi
TE: McMichael, Lee

DE: Taylor, Holiday, Roth, Bowens
DT: Carter, Chester, TimBo, Romero, *Vickerson/Thompson
SLB: Spragan, Moore, Pope
MLB: Thomas, Crowder
WLB: Seau, Jenkins, (Crowder)
CB: Madison, Howard, Poole, Daniels, *Edwards/Mitchell
FS: Bell, Tillman, (Bua)
SS: Jones, Meeuwsen, Bua

K: Mare
P: Turk
LS: Perry
KR: Welker

The player I question the most is Welker.... I would hate to have a roster spot for a player who ONLY does kick returns. Truthfully, he doesnt have the size to be a #5 WR... ALTHOUGH he was one of my fav players last year, he is the one I question the most.

that is pretty much it Philter--What worries me is LT and DB

You Forgot To Mention Travis Minor Who I Think Will Make The Team He Has Skills And He Took Less Money To Stay.

What skills does he have? Losing yards? He's going to be cut.

Feeley is going to win. Frerotte is going to be nothing but a backup.

From what i saw last year AJ Feeley will not win the job, unless he improves drastically. He was worse than Fiedler last season. Gus Frerotte knows the system, has more experience, and is an overall better QB than AJ Feeley. Only problem is he isnt the QB of the future, due to the fact hes 35 years old, but from what i saw last season A.J. Feeley is NOT the QB of the future. He did terrible.

I think Vickerson makes the team.

I think there's a good chance Alex Holmes makes the team, probably knocking Donald "Holding, #85, Offense" Lee out of a roster spot. Saban loved that guy in minicamp.

I think Gilmore and at least one UDFA WR (probably Davis, but that UCF guy whose name I can't remember could be there too) will make the team, beating out Newsome.

I think Mitchell's going to get stashed on IR for a year.

BTW, calling Welker strictly a KR/PR isn't really fair. The number of other things he can do in a pinch are a big help: QB, kick and punt. Granted, we wouldn't have him do those for any long period of time, but if you think of him as the third string kicker/punter and 4th string QB, he becomes a lot more useful. I also think he can play 5th WR, despite his diminutive size.

They'll keep 4 TE's. One being Ed Perry for long snapping. Moa wont make the team. They also wont keep 11 O-lineman. Pape will be the one that wont make it. He's also a RT.

I have Ed Perry as the LS. I just didnt list him under TE. Im 50/50 on Alex Holmes. I couldnt decide who would be more important, holmes at TE or the extra lineman. If any lineman doesnt make it, it will be Pape on the cutting block. Moa I have as a practice squad but thats questionable also. Sammy Morris has proven in the past he can play RB and FB and if we have more of a spread offense, I was iffy if we would even have 2 FBs on the roster if we had Morris as a backup RB.

The other spot I question is along the Dline. Because Chester, Timbo, and Carter are all up there in age, I would have liked to throw another Dlineman in there but I didnt know who to remove. It was either Pape or another Dlineman.

Vickerson right now is my odd man out along with Holmes.... so I agree with those two. Because of our Oline problems, I put Pape in there but any of those three are interchangeable right now. One of those three guys gets the last roster spot right now.... Im not really sure who. If our Oline improves and we have a clear cut set 5 starters, then I would take Holmes or Vickerson over Pape.

Pick two guys outta Newsome, Gilmore and Davis to be the #4 and #5 WRs. Right now I took Newsome and I couldnt decide between the other two. What will be interesting is if we re-sign Boston to see who gets the #5 WR spot. With a more downfield-vertical offense, that #5 WR might actually see some love on the field.

Mitchell - Agreed. I can see it happening.....

Welker: Eh. He is a backup kicker and a 4th string QB I guess. As for WR, I think that might be a stretch.

good job philter - my only prob with your list is alabi and vickerson on the practice squad - i doubt saban exposes them there with a risk of losing them to another team - especially since they are saban picked players - i would put alabi over pape - and vickerson over prolly d-bo because of his contract

Yeah, he did terrible last year. Especially the last two games he started. Which by the way accounted for half our wins of the entire season. Oh yeah, and all those INT's he threw. He didn't get better at not throwing them as the season went on. He threw zero INT's the last 2 games he started. Feeley improved 10 fold from his first start until his last start. He was beaten, battered, bruised, dislocated and the man stood in there and just kept playing. He has a lot of heart and improved as the year went on. He should win.
