Any chance the refs will take any heat for that? I realize their human and make mistakes, but that was a big one! I'm just glad it didn't effect the outcome of the game.

Yup, I was so pissed and was pulling my hair when they let them run that play. Then these Patriot fans get so pissed off when we call them the "New England Officials". :shakeno: THAT WAS PROOF RIGHT THERE!

We were playing the Patriots after all, it was almost like they tried to let them back in the game.

But, our buddy Yeremiah Bell took care of that.

It did effect the outcome. Didn't they fumble and we recovered? They might have gotten a field goal.

It wasn't a "fifth" down, it was a fourth down that was still marked as a third down on the field. And thanks to Yeremiah Bell, it was still the Patriots' last down.

The NFL should write Miami a letter of apology and discipline the sideline official. We'll probably only get the letter, but hey.

:yeahthat:

Easy all, the officials were right on the call. The penalty was not a lost of down. Even Randy Cross said he was wrong on that, he thought the officials screwed up, but later said he was wrong.

i think there was confusion because the ref said the illegal forward pass was a loss of down and it was really a 5 yard penalty repeat of down

What the announcers said afterwards were the judges ruled on the field that since the illegal act was committed behind the line of scrimmage, the loss of down is not applicable, and if the the penalty was committed after the line of scrimmage the penalty that was mistakenly called in the official's booth upstairs would of taken effect. Now, the announcers were missing names and screwing up sentences left and right and I wasnt quite sure if we got jipped or not, but I am gonna research that rule.

Don't bother. It's here:

http://www.nfl.com/fans/rules/penaltysummaries

5 Yards
...
27. Second forward pass behind the line.

...

Five Yards and Loss of Down (Combination Penalty)

1. Forward pass thrown from beyond line of scrimmage.

They got it right.

On that same drive, the same sideline official who didn't change the down marker was really late in changing the down on the field another time. Either he was fliriting with one of the cheerleaders or had a late night last night and was trying to catch some "zzzzz'z". Thank god Yeremiah got Brady and forced a fumble! I would have been furious had that stood and not been corrected.

They're talking about the drive where the Patriots were going for it on 4th down and it still said 3rd down on the field, not the illegal forward pass.

don't really know what you guys are talking about but that roughing the passer on Y.Bell towards the end of the game was BS, plus Brady threw the ball in the middle of nowhere and was close to the harsh marks. intentional grounding could have easily been called
