Not sure when the date is but NFL teams will need to decide to execute 5th year option on 2012 1st round picks in the coming months.

The were 11 offensive skills position player taken in the 1st round of 2012 draft including our own RT17. I not sure that many of them are going to get that option extended. After 3 years there isn't a ton of production from this draft.

The 4 QB's

Luck, RG3, RT17 and Weeden - My bet would be only 2 of these get the option extended. Luck is automatic, RT17 has a good chance. The other 2 aren't even starting anymore so I don't see it happening for them.

The 3 Running backs

Richardson, Doug Martin and David Wilson. - I don't see any of these getting the option extended. Richardson is nearing 3000 Yard from scrimmage and 19 TD's so he may have a slight chance. But I doubt it.

The 4 WR's

Justin Blackmon, Michael Floyd, Kendall Wright and A. J Jenkins. - Blackmon and Jenkins are bust, Floyd and Wright are OK but not worth the tag.

So maybe anywhere from 1 to 4 of them get the option extended IMO.

There are a lot of other Offensive linemen and defensive players that are good and will probably get the option. Just not a very good offensive skills 1st round except for a few players.

Opinions?

i believe david wilson retired due to a neck injury, and richardson has been a massive bust. doug martin has had injury problems, but at least he did show glimpses at a point. i do agree though, none get extended.

i also believe no way u can extend tannehill now, he still needs to prove himself, contrary to what ppl on here say. he will almost certainly be the qb next year, but no way has he earned that mega contract extension just yet. 2 seasons in a row where the offense ****s the bed with season on the line.

fortunately for him, he will most likely have 1 more chance to prove himself next year.

Justin Blackmon and Trent Richardson. Now there's a couple of guys who won't be having their options picked up.

Agree with your assessment.

Looking forward to locking RT up....

Last I saw the QB option is now speculated to be at $17 to $20M for that one year, up from $15M. Lots of money but, don't see a better option.

We have until April 2015.

I'd actually pass on the option and try to sign him to a long term contract instead.

 I can't wait for that long term big money contract extension that's coming...this boards haters will lose it...right now you may be able to work out a 5 and 70 or so deal but if they wait it only goes up...it's right now off his play higher than what these people think

Luck tannehill and possibly Michael Floyd given Fitzgerald may be on the way out are the only considerations...

Yes it is just a bargaining chip. Luck may not get it extended. They just may backup the brinks trunk to his house. LOL.

Luck will get top 5 qb money thill won't command that right now but if you are proactive you can lock him up by qb terms relatively at a bargain...he will over the course of the contract out play it...

I'd offer 5 and 65 extension he'd say no try and come to agreement 5 and 80 see if you can work an out after 2 years or so but barring health you wouldnt exercise it...

This is the qb

I'd like a $10-12 million a year deal at maybe 4 years, but to make it a good deal for Miami they have to inset some kind of way out of the contract. Like after 2 or 3 years they can get out of the deal if Tannehill craps the bed. I don't think he will but you have to protect yourself. We dont want any Jay Cutler type deals.

It won't be any 6 and 126 type stuff but I don't think any 5 and 60 will do it either...his skillset has already outperformed that...if I was him I'd play out my final year before I signed any 5 and 60 extension...have to be at least 15 mil per or I would play it out and then make you seriously sweat out a potential free agent move after next season if you passed on the 5th year option

And there would be suitors

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. He will definitely be in the $15 mil/year or higher range, depending on how next year goes. Even if you are one of the folks who isn't on board with him, the truth is that that's the QB market. Tannehill would start on a number of other teams, including two in our own division, no questions asked. The idea of keeping him for $10mil/year seems absurd. Good veteran backups who don't have a starting opportunity get paid around 5mil/year.

We are talking contract offers THIS offseason, not next. If you were to offer Tannehill a long term guaranteed $15 million a year contract a few months from now instead of picking up that option due, I think that would be really tough to justify, and I am a Tannehill supporter. That number puts him in the top 10 highest paid QB's. I'd only be willing to give him $15mill per season if the guaranteed amount is low, like Andy Dalton low.
