62.5 yards a game is all a player needs to average for a 1,000 yard season. Right now, Ronnie Brown has 278 yards and he needs to be at 312.5 to be at the average. He's only 34.5 yards below the average.
Some people are blaming Ronnie and saying he's a bust and whatnot or their blaming the O-line. I think Ronnie has made some great runs just to get back to the line of scrimmage. Some of his 3 yard runs has been really amazing. I belive that Ronnie Brown is going to be nothing short of being a stud in this league. His blitz pickups have been great, we saw that last year as a rookie. Pretty amazing for a rookie to pick that stuff up.
Just think, if Ronnie rushes for 97 yards this weekend against the Jets, he'll be back on track for a 1,000 yard season.

dude he was the #2 overall pick in the draft. you don't expect average production from that position. you expect greatness.

The #2 pick in the draft should be blowing peoples doors off regularly. 1500 on the ground is performance consistent with a #2 pick.

I like Ronnie but we aren't mixing up the run enough IMO. We have speed backs too whether it be Minor or Suggs who can change it up and add a speed dimension. Smaller guys are hard to tackle for those big lumbering types out there. Its a change up and Ronnie has shown that when you give him time to rest between plays he is more explosive when his number is actually called. Last year case and point.

and he will be great when he has a good o-line infront of him and probably when they start giving him the ball more than 15 times a game

Heading into this game against New England, Ronnie Brown was the #7 back in the NFL in terms of total yardage. And, of the 6 backs ahead of him, only 2 had more touchdowns than he's had.

People aren't focused enough on the big picture. Good players find ways to affect the game positively even when things aren't going the way you want, and Ronnie was doing that.

Ronnie is the #11 back in fantasy football right now, despite playing behind a horrible offensive line. After the NE game against a tough defense, he is #15 among running backs in total yardage, and has more touchdowns than 8 of the 14 players above him in total yardage. The only players with more total yardage than Ronnie that also have more TDs than him are Deuce McAlister and Brian Westbrook. Rudi Johnson and Clinton Portis also have 4 TDs compared to Ronnie's 3, but they don't have as much total yardage.

This is a good post and a great response. Getting 1000 yds in an nfl season doesn't mean anything and I have been screaming about Ronnie's production over his first 20 nfl games.

I think what's a more important stat for a rb is total yds from scrimmage and I haven't noticed what his are but I believe he should get at least 1600 total yds from scrimmage.

Anyone see Ricky (and John Avery) last night in CFL action. Ricky had like 72 yds in 10 carries. We certainly would be better off with the R&R tandem this year.

I think people need to stop making excuses for Ronnie and using the O line excuse. We had a terrible line before Ricky got here and then what happened? The more I see Ronnie this year I am starting to think that he was not the best back in the draft. He does too much dancing instead of hitting the hole and he lacks vision when there is a hole. But I think because he had a good combine before the draft that his stock went up.

This is no knock on Ronnie, but 1000 yards isn't really the standard to be an elite back. It was during the late 80's. But these days you have to push 1500 yards to be considered an elite back. Look what Larry Johnson did last year and Tiki Barber, Ricky Williams (for us a few years ago) and Priest Holmes, Jamal Lewis, Edgerrin James. Seasons like they have are what put you into elite status. Ronnie Brown is a good back. But very average backs can pick up 65 yards per game. It isn't that big an achievement these days.
Ronnie may eventually have some 1500 yard seasons. But it will take a much better o-line for him to do it. There are areas he needs to improve on as well. Ronnie is not a GREAT back. He is a good back - alot like Eddie George: steady and reliable. He is not a game breaker. Game breakers can make a bad line look average and a good line look great.
Once we get a decent line in front of him, it will be the norm to see Ronnie go for about 1200 a season and have some good recieving #'s on top of that. But right now, it's hard to get a guage on exactly where Ronnie stands because there are just too many issues surrounding him.

Not if you are a Dolphins fan. Our luck with running backs since the 70's has been terrible.

For all the guys who are ripping Ronnie, did it ever occur to them that he doesn't even get the amount of carries he should considering he is the feature back?

Ronnie Brown has 431 total yards and 3 touchdowns. He is on pace for 1400 total yards and 10 touchdowns...behind an offenisve line that is pretty attrocious at run blocking.

Wake up people. Ronnie Brown has been positively affecting games since the start despite the poor blocking.
