Revis wasnt very good last year I realize he was in a less then ideal scheme but he can be beaten. Ted Ginn took his lunch ted freaking Ginn

to be fair, hoops has been saying pre-injury for a while now, when comparing revis to sanders...

how many times do i got to say pre injury...revis still graded out as a top level corner in 2013 i believe but i'm fully aware it remains to be seen if he gets back to pre injury player...when he was the best defensive player in football for a couple years there...

we better hope he doesnt...cause beli with that kind of freedom with the other 10 guys is gonna be a handful

Didn't want to start a thread for this so I'll put it here:

Perkins Jul 25th interview on WQAM with Freeman & Fox articulates exactly how I feel about the team right now.

- defense is on the cusp of elite
- Tannehill needs to prove it (compared him to Dalton)
- o-line won't be good, even hoping for them to be decent is asking a lot
- the major issues with the team have been personnel related. Not coaching, not scheme, but personnel.
Lots of people have said that. We're basically two years behind thanks to Ireland.

I still maintain that Sherman is better then the pre injury Revis. I always felt revis was overrated. Ginn beat revis when he was on the dolphins too. That was pre injury revis

silver lining for me is i'm not really sure if i think this perkins guy knows any more about football than omar...who i know is a dunce...preseason will tell a lot though

the seahawks dont even begin to ask sherman to do what the jets asked of revis back then...i mean not even close...

It's so difficult to compare players from different era's and in watching film clips on Jim Brown, he was hurt after most tackles when he ran, and unable to block. LOL

Neon was the very best c0over DB I have ever seen but, have a question for you and Hoops. How much, if at all, did the eras matter in the comparison in that there were rule changes, big difference in run/pass ratio, and WR's being bigger, stronger and faster, etc.? I remember Marino saying how much better he would have done in today's NFL.

You could be more physical in Deion's day but he wasn't that physical a player so he succeeded in spite of that. Similarly, Revis isn't the foot athlete Deion was but he's succeeding even though he's not allowed to be as physical.

Another thing to consider with Revis is that he's only been considered a "special" player when Rex Ryan has been his coach. His first two years in the league he was considered a good player, maybe even a very good player, but not elite. Not an all timer. Then Rex shows up and he's an All Pro. Last year was a similar story in reverse. He leaves NY for Tampa and while looked like a good player, he didn't look elite, and there was lots of complaining about how he wasn't being used the right way.

Meanwhile Deion was the best corner in the NFL playing for Jerry Glanville and his high school level Grits Blitz, grabbing 24 INTs in his first five years in the league, which is more than Revis has now.

Brown wasn't hurt after most plays. He just got up slowly every time so his opponents wouldn't know when he was dinged up. As far as I know Brown never missed a game and according to him he was "never laid out on the field". Now, at 6'2, 230 Brown was the size of some of that era's defensive linemen. Even today he'd be a big back.

That Ginn TD was in 2009 and I believe that was the only TD Revis allowed that year. Hell the whole Jets team only gave up like 8 passing TDs that season. Revis in 2009 shut down every big name WR he faced......incredible year. That said, Deion's returns were incredible......high stepping from like 50 yards out and still faster then eveybody else. Insane speed!

Seeing as draftwise Ireland was one of the better GMs we have had around here 20 years plus and Hickey Irelands replacement was a unwanted castoff whom came from a loosing franchise like Tampa Bay you are putting a lot of faith in this years drafts that consists of "small" college studs.

lets hope we see less of this

He says he thinks we can win but we'll have to do it more like the Ravens did with Flacco rather than be a team that depends solely on the QB. I think we're the Giants, if Philbin and Tannehill survive we'll have a lot of 8-8 or 9-7 seasons with some very good seasons sprinkled in, we'll never be a dynasty but we'll probably never have another losing season under them either.

come on Thomas!!

i don't even know what you call that technique except for pure fail...what a disaster that guy was last year...i'm holding out slim hopes he's a different guy this year but i'm prepared to be not impressed...i dont know how anyone coud watch that kids college tape though and think tackle that looked guard all the way to me...didn't matter where he lined up he was horrid in the preseason last year

i don't think billy turner will be that bad especially if he gets run at tackle but hes got to learn to play lower especially on the inside...and i get that...very raw technique but a better foot and move athlete than thomas...i get the feeling though we are trying to make a correct fit tackle a guard in turner...i see space athlete more than phone booth there...
