Stop wasting resources on players that are not up to the task

this team has a history of this going back through several coaches. i made a statement like this a few minutes ago about nate garner. he has been here long enough and hasnt been able to beat out week talent 0-linemen. and, i dont see him as anything great of a backup either.

he is taking up a roster space where someone else could come in and maybe be an actual player the starter is scared of!!

larsen must not have the feet for the zbs is the only thing i can think of. the coaches like him, he's a solid citizen. he can hike the ball like no ones business and is strong. its obviously something for a kid like this, a true center to not even get a snap with NO center available and he being the ONLY real one able to play!!

just wish one of these insider types would ask them and post it so we know why. after all, it IS all about us!!

I'm still not completely sold on Lazor but it's hard not to be optimistic right now. He's worked with a number of interesting coaches and he genuinely seems to have picked up things from all of them.

The fact that he's trying to run practices a bit like Chip Kelly is very interesting.

Utah St has a mobile QB. Before Chuckie Keeton (Remember that name) went down last season, they ran a fair amount Zone read.

That's because Garner isn't any good. He can do everything...poorly...

If we end up with him as the starter, we're screwed...the coaches know that too!
I'd much rather have Garner short term than what we are seeing from Shelley Smith. Putting a guy at C who has no experience at any level was questionable. Obviously we are very early in camp but still struggling after 4 practices is a bad sign.

well, that makes this even more of a head scratcher. i only have one more scenario and that is they dont want another rookie on the line.

Not entirely true is is real good at landing on injured reserve

Amen to that. Been raising this point myself. Larsen has been a C his whole career.

I understand the coaches like Smith as an experiment. But at some point you have to realize that a "bad snap" problem is not the part of his game you want him to be learning on the job. Every time we have a bad snap in practice, 10 other guys have not learned anything from that play.

I do not for the life of me understand why we are letting an experiment and learning process, at such a fundamental level, stop our 1st team offense from practicing.

If Smith cannot snap the ball, PUT HIM ON 3rd String until he learns how. You do not let your 1st Offense stand around waiting on one guy. Especially when you are installing a new offense. This is unacceptable.

I don't care about Larsen's deficiencies. Give this kid a chance to prove what he can do OR CUT HIM. Stop wasting resources on players that are not up to the task.

This reeks of a team who over paid on a player (Smith) and are trying to validate his salary by trying to find a position for him on the starting unit. If Smith cannot crack the starting OL, there are other guys needing a chance. Let's find out where the real talent is on this roster and stop being stubborn about cost/benefit and salary analysis.

3rd String is for development. So put Shelley Smith's Center career there. There are 10 other guys on the 1st String Offense that need to be practicing.

Shelley Smith was signed to play RG, and if Pouncey was healthy, that is where he'd be lining up with the 1st unit.

I didn't see much of a struggle from the tweets. A couple bad shotgun snaps will happen this early camp. I've coached offensive line for a while now, getting guys to snap and make great blocks in the middle is tough from pee wee to pros. If we see this during live action in a preseason game then we have an issue but guys usually tend to get their bad snaps out during practice. Be patient... wait on it... it seems like there's a method to the coaching staffs madness. It takes a grown man to handle 0 and 1 techniques so Shelley must have the beef they need inside. As fans we need to give him time to work those kinks out, that's why it's called practice. If the coaching staff is being patient with him, we have no choice. Right?

He hasnt struggled in all four practices. He struggled in the first practice with a ton of bad snaps. Then had zero bad snaps saturday and sunday. Then had two today.

And he would suck just as bad there.

But even when he was snapping in RTs direction he was still getting beat quite often.

I am completely aware of his positional signing. The fact he was moved to C, a position he has NEVER played, over Brenner and Larsen tells me 2 things:

1) He's not the best RG on the team (the position he was signed to occupy)
2) They have decided to completely limit the OL and Offense's development to accommodate teaching him C while ignoring 2 C's on the roster. One of whom performed admirably in spot duties last year.

We have a new offense and (now) 5 new OL. This is the MOST inappropriate time to be hindering the development of 10 other starters on offense in order to accommodate an experiment with no merits or supporting evidence to warrant the decision.

Using this philosophy, we should be completely open to experimenting with Egnew at LT with the 1's because he MAY be able to play the position based on the fact he has lined up on the LOS at some point in his career NEAR a T.

We have C's who are strong at snapping and have extensive experience playing the position. If for no other reason, Larsen should have been getting snaps with the 1's while Smith works on his snapping with the 3's or a position coach. It would allow us to get a peak at the rest of Larsen's game while getting the absolutely needed reps for the other 10 starters on the offense.

Again, this reeks of a team trying to justify a salary and bad move in FA. Instead of letting Smith battle it out for a G position, we are now allowing another position to be impacted by this bad decision.

Even if Larsen just snapped the ball and stood still, it would be better for the other 10 guys on the offense than this disaster. No snap = No play.

comparing a seam threat TE switching to tackle, to a G switching to C... Seems a little hyperbole no? I get the point otherwise... but G and C are not that overly different of positions. Maybe we should see a game before we jump to conclusions.
