I don't know where to put him, but I know he is better than #71
Not saying better, but I've seen old highlights (before my time) of Lance Alworth. There was nobody smoother than Warfield.
Well, it was a few decades ago. You would almost have to be of retirement age to have seen him play. When we're talking top 100 players all time I surprised they have Warfield that high. Not saying he wasn't a great player and any player in the Hall of Fame is worthy, but a lot of people don't have Warfield in the top 5 at WR and some don't have him in the top 10.

You certainly can't compare by stats alone. The game is far different today. A DB could basically knock receivers off their routes at will pre mid eighties.
Yes, I mentioned Alworth before. It is my understanding that he was basically uncoverable short of a true double team.I saw him play. I would have Otis Taylor and Lance Alworth, two players of his era ahead of him. Warfield was mid 60's to mid 70's. Some people would have Raymond Berry up there too.

Pretty smooth. Almost 20 ypr.
Didn't he play his later career in Dallas? Landry wasn't a sling it around kinda coach. Maybe hurt his stats, as opposed to the Chargers.Lance Armstrong stats for the 1st 8 years of his career are probably the most impressive of any WR.
Only Rice, Harrison, Moss, Owens had more TD's their 1st 8 years
Only Rice, Moss, Harrison, Calvin Johnson, Fitzgerald have more yards their 1st 8 years.
And Alworth didn't play during the 16 game era just to further capture his dominance.
Guys like Warfield and Alworth don't get the credit they deserve.
