If the Colts do go undefeated this year, indepedent of what you might think of them and how much you love the Fins, who would go down in history as having a more prestigious record? I'd say Indy, because they broke a 33-year record, and, at the same time, also did it with more games, when competition is tougher and more impressively. But then again, I foresee them losing to both the Jags and the Bolts, so there goes the discussion.

I say it's the Dolphins. If or when the Colts can have an undefeated season in the midst of three straight appearances in the Super Bowl, they can talk.

I think that the longer season and free agency have no impact on the quality, btw. They're red herrings in my book.

I think the Colts could go undefeated in the regular season (16-0) but I doubt they go 19-0 as the pressure in the playoffs is much different. I think the Colts still have the Chargers and Seahawks, and they are gonna need to be able to stop LT and Shaun Alexander...if they rest their guys on D, like Dungy has said they might, they are gonna get beat.

If the Colts go undefeated and win the Superbowl, They would go down in history as having the more prestigious record. They would simply have had to win more games. I don't think they do it, but wouldn't be surprised if they do! (if that makes any sense) Also, I think it would be kind of funny to see them get to the Superbowl and lose.

Let's hope they lose before that. If they lose then, they will have had an 18 game run and some yahoos out there will still try to argue that it was better than Miami's perfect season. In fact, that is what will happen if they go 16-0 but lose at any time in the playoffs.

You're probably right, but what we know and what people need to understand is that they will not be perfect if they lose any games. Winning all of the regular season games (16) is quite an accomplishment, but would (or I guess) should mean nothing unless they finish the job. They will go down as the best "regular" season team in history. Dolphins would remain the only perfect team in history. I'll take that.

Remember last season when they were trying to compare the Pats 2 season winning total to the Dolphins perfect season? That was lame.

I think they will go unbeaten. They beat a good Bengals and Steeler team, easily too, although the Bengal game looked closer than it was. As long as they as they take the lead in games I dont see anyone coming close. I hope I am wrong, maybe the Jags will beat them, but I dont think so. And in the playoffs they will be home so its not like the weather will play a part in their downfall either. As for where they stand at the moment against the great Fins team, it is hard to say. It is definitely easier to pass the ball at the mo, with penalties loaded against the DB's, which makes it a darned sight easier for Manning, but that is the same for all teams so I wont use that as an excuse. In fact overall I would think I would take Indies O and our D from 72

I'd say Miami, because Griese was injured with a broken leg that year and Earl Moral was the backup who led them up to the SB where Griese came in and won the game. Plus Miami was basicly one dimensinal by running the ball the whole season very few passing yrds And as I recall half the games Miami palyed were not in a climate controled dome. We ended up being undefeated because our D won games not because our O outscored everybody, so it was much more a team effort. Does anyone think Indy could go udefeated without Peyton??? I know I don't, and does anyone even Know without looking it up who Indys backup QB is??

Miami 72 were the best ever because no one did what they did, before them. They made a record where there wasn't one, and have held it to this day. Go back and look up the stats Miami's D held for that season and go look at Indys D stats this year. Not even close.

I hope Indy does go undefeated. I'm tired of having to hear about the 72 Phins getting together and celebrating. I'm tired of hearing about who will go undefeated every year. Just be rid of it already....it was a great achievement that we have celebrated for far too long. But the Colts wont go undefeated anyway, i wouldn't be suprised if they lost 2-3 games.

It would be interesting if Indy did go all the way but lost the Superbowl. Remember Washington was favored over Miami in 72 even though the Phins hadn't lost.

PS. Shula will tell you the 73 Dolphins could beat the 72 Dolphins.

I am a Dolphin fan through and through since 1971' but I have to say that if Indy does it, they take the prize. Defense stats are somewhat meaningless now becuse of all the new penalty rules that they didn't have back then just like one could argue that although Peyton beat Marino's TD record it's not the same because of the new rules that protect the QB. It is actually quite surprising that no one couldn't do it sooner. Getting back on topic though if the Colts were to do it and be 19-0 No one should be trying to take that away from them they would have accomplished something nearly impossible in this day and age. I'm pretty sure some of the Dolphin members of that undefeated team would tell you the same thing.
