HBO says 737k people watched the first episode of #HardKnocks. When #Cowboys went up against Olympics in 2008, only 513k people watched

For comparison the Jets debut had 837,000 people, but like Volin mentioned, the Dolphins debut had to go head to head with the Olympics. Very respetable numbers for HBO and the Dolphins.

I just finished watching it - thanks to the HBO link. It's hard for me to put myself in the shoes of someone who isn't a Miami fan - as boring as Miami football was under Tony S., I was on the edge of my seat for every snap - but I think Philbin and Johnson are great, and there seem to be some other interesting things going on. I'm going to speculate that the general public will like it more than most assumed.

And I bet several thousands more are going to watch it on the HBO website. Funny considering some were saying it was going to have very poor ratings. :ponder:

Are they going to continue to upload it to the site for free a few days after every episode?

Look out, Here come junc.

"We won 2 more games than you and had 100,000 more fans for hard knocks"

Don't give him anymore ammunition.

serious question...if you dvr it and watch it later do you count towards that 737k...always wondered what counted in ratings counts and what didn't...seems to me like a large amount of the population that has satellite or cable service or whatever has dvrs...

DVRing does count. But not if you watch it recorded multiple times.

That doesn't include those of us who live overseas and have to download it.

I watched it but it was a rerun the next day.

Unless it's changed, TV ratings are based on Nielsen's data reconciliation. What they do is they choose a certain number of households in a given area, and they place a box that records what they're watching and uploads the data to Nielsen. Those households are what decide what people are watching.

When I was in High School, we were actually chosen as one of the houses in the Hammocks/Kendall area of Miami-Dade.

So it actually doesn't matter what you're watching, because they only base "ratings" off of the few households that has these boxes, and those viewers count for the number of people within their area.

Yes, I'm about positive that number is only live viewings based on the Nielsen people meter, which have between 20,000 and 25,000 households. They also do DVR's but its not counted the same way. But that's how they can get numbers so fast, by Nielsen. I see that 737K on by the numbers and Nielsen is where they get them. But HBO don't use ratings like regular networks and the numbers for their series are usually much higher on a weekly basis, because of repeat viewings/showings.
