I really thought Tre Mason was going to be a Phin. I thought Vonta Leach was going to be a Phin last year.

I think after 3 years, it's obvious Philbin believes solely on finesse over strength. Shorter distance to go simply equates to more technique needed in a smaller window to him.

Defense gonna be beastly. Sounds like Finnegan is balling. Delmas sounds like an upgrade. Jordan having a good camp. D-line is stacked. LBs still a worry, and its hard to have an elite D without a real good MLB but opposing QBs at least are not going to look forward to playing the Miami Dolphins this season.

Jordan Tripp seems to be taking advantage of his opportunities, as well.

Well he needs to have a fairly decent completion % to ensure he gets the opportunities in the redzone to make him dominant. 100% in the redzone means little if you are only down there once a game because you can't complete passes in between the 20's.

Well I am talking about if he is in the mid to high 50s in a game with 2 or more TDs. If you look at individual games, there are games where A QB did not have a very hight percentage once the game ended, but he was able to score multiple times thanks completions of 15 or higher passes and a running game.

If he is averaging in the 50s every game it will obviosly hurt Miami, and there will be concern, whick I doubt will happen.

I'm still in shock a year later that we put this kind of trust into Phillip Wheeler . . . both financially and as a dependable "3 down" LB option. Jeff Ireland was god awful, but switching out Dansby for Wheeler IMO ranks as a top 3 Jeff Ireland "**** up" . . . and that is saying something.

His contract left no choice, and even without it, there were no better available options. Wheeler was switched out for Burnett, who did not have a good year as well. If you look at all the starting 4-3 OLB's in the NFL, there are very few who are good. I'm one of the very few who thinks he will be pretty good this year. We shall see if I have an acorn or, am too blind. :)

I don't care if Wheeler continues to start or not, but he better produce or he needs to sit,

Perceived issue with Tre Mason is picking up the blitz and protecting the QB. His running is good but he's seen as a liability protecting the QB when he's on the field. I think that was a big reason why he wasn't drafted much higher. I don't think it's just as simplistic as finesse vs strength. Joe loves to see Charles Clay running through defenders like a Dodge Ram. Charles isn't what you'd call a finesse guy.

And the Shelley Smith at C experiment comes to a close.

Everyone can breath now.

:chuckle:

I'm not saying he will be good, but I do think once teams learned they could pound the rock on us, is when he got exposed.

Wheeler isn't and has never been a great insticts guy, he's more of the type of linebacker you tell exactly what to do, and he can excel at that. Once teams started pounding the ball on us, he just looked out of his depth, doesn't recognize things as quick as he needs to.

I agree Clay isn't exactly finesse, but our play calling and player choices do not paint a picture of a run first, power running team. I feel Clay is one of the exceptions to the Philbin rule.

FWIW, Wheeler was good on the pass rush last year, and led the team in stops, which are solo tackles made causing a failure for opposing O's including sacks and he only had 1. He was horrible in coverage, and worse vs the run. He graded out as having 10 bad games last season but, only 2 the year before.

Aside from Grimes and Gibson, Wallace, Ellerbe, and Wheeler disappointed last year, to different degrees. I have to give them this year to see what they do.

Billy turner gets the start at right guard...come on son get her don

like i was saying yesterday HOOPS, i think they knew right away what they had in billy turner. what they didnt know is what they had in dallas thomas and he being the "vet" and this staff investing in him last year, they have given him every chance to shine. and i dont think "shine" has been his calling card so far. not at all.

i remember a couple months back a blurb about the staff was impressed at how fast billy turner picked up the playbook. i think they realized that the only thing he had left to do, the only way to get him up to snuff was having him ON the field. i strongly believe that the RG spot is his to lose.

shelly smith hasnt been to shiney either. i am hoping that turner stays in and never looks back. garner looked just fine at center after pouncy went down last year. i think this just may be his spot [not saying he will take pouncys gig]. what i am saying is, this o-line of albert-colledge-garner-turner and james just may be a big surprise this year. and fox is looking like he is playing REAL ball also. we just may finally have a couple 3 guys on the o-line bench that can play for a change. fox, garner at reserve center and shelly smith may be the best bench we have had in some time.

but BILLY TURNER....... ya'mon!!
