I'd like to hear how Sparano lost 3 games by decisions he made please
We have been through this before.
Game 1) The Colts game. 3rd and 6 with just over 4 minutes remaining...tie game. The phins have controlled the ball for a helluva long time, havent punted, havent turned it over. At the time of this decision, Pennington only has like 3 incomplete passes. Pennington who is notorious for completing 3rd and medium/shorts his whole career and sustaining clutch drives, has already completed 3 such passes on this drive for first downs. The Colts have shown zero ability to pressure Pennington on the drive because they are completely gassed.
So what should you do???
Common sense says complete a pass for a first down, continue the drive and either score the TD that everyone knows we must get to keep Manning from beating us, or kick a FG with no time left.
What does Henning call and Morono APPROVE? You got it.......a run. We gain a couple yards and kick a FG that everyone in America knows just got us beat. Only Tony Morono is fired up about it on the sideline.
Then Manning is kind enough not to take the entire 4 minutes left to score his TD that everyone knew he would(they scored on us the whole game in no time flat). So he scores it in under a minute
, leaving us a nice 3 minutes left to go down and match it to win.
Now this shouldnt be a problem because again, we havent punted or turned the ball over the whole game. So what does Tony Morono do???? Run on 1st and 2nd downs and let the clock go all the way to the 2 minute warning before we so much as move the ball anywhere. By the time we get to midfield the clock is almost gone. Thanks Tony.
In a game where a team DOES NOT PUNT, DOES NOT TURN THE BALL OVER, and holds it for 45 minutes, how the hell do you lose? You score on every possession. That means youre kicking too many FGs. We actually forced 2 punts on the colts. We kicked FGs because Morono loves em. 3rd and 6 in that spot, throw the ****ing ball. Its almost a guarenteed first down the way that game was going.
Game 2) The Saints game. Phins up 24-3 and dominating. You know the Saints arent going away. So the last thing you want to do is breathe life into them. They complete a pass to the 1 yard line with just a couple seconds left and the clock will start when the official signals it ready for play. The saints have ZERO TIMEOUTS and no ability to stop the clock. They rush their FG team out. Even if the FG is successful, the phins are still up 18 points......THREE POSSESSIONS. A FG is a win for the phins in that spot. It dosent give the Saints any life. However, a TD would.
So what does Morono do???? Calls timeout for the saints. Unreal. The saints wisely decide to score the gift TD and get within 2 possessions. In saints terms, thats 2 big plays. They make big plays a lot. You want to keep them 3 big plays away from taking the lead. Instead Sparano gives them all the momentum they needed, and Ginn takes it from there. Phins lose. Tony Morono strikes again.
Game 3) Buffalo last week. Ricky is 5 carries for 32 yards. Opening drive. Toronto is showing no signs of stopping the run. Its gashing them on every play. 1st and goal at the 3. What would anyone with common sense do.................
run Ricky maybe?
What does Henning call and Morono approve? Thats right.....a halfback pass. Great call. Ball is intercepted. The halftime score couldve easily been 24-7 with that play and no drive killing calls like the Ginn reverse on the other drive.
At 24-7 it changes the game completely. Toronto is never in position to stay in the game and is forced to be in more passing situation which Cam Wake showed he would destroy the Bills shaky OL.
The phins wouldve rolled to a very similar victory as in the first meeting between these two teams had they gotten a multiple score lead and put pressure on the OL to pass block. All they had to do was score that opening TD, and continue to gash Toronto up front, handing it to Ricky. Instead, Morono strikes again. Phins lose.
There ya go.
And this leaves out many other questionable decisions Tony Morono has made throughout the season that fortunately the players have been able to overcome and win despite his utter stupidity. Like the 2 point conversion try against the Jets.
