These are 8 players that I have identified as ones who need to take their game to another level by the 2007 season and bolster the depth on the team:

WR- Derek Hagan ..... Needs to step up his game and start justifying the team using a 3rd round pick on him. He needs to challenge Booker next season.

G/C- Joe Berger ........ He looked a lot like Mark Dixon during the pre-season before suffering a foot injury. He's smart and athletic. If he can stay healthy he should challenge for a starting job on the o-line next season.

T- Anthony Alabi ........... Next year will be his third on the team so it's time for him to show he can provide stiff competition for a starting tackle job. Maybe the left tackle position? Afterall, L.J. Shelton is merely average.

NT- Manny Wright ....... "If" he returns, he needs to make a strong push at the nose tackle position. This spot has a couple of guys who are getting long in the tooth (Traylor and Wilkinson) so an infusion of youth is a priority.

DT- Kevin Vickerson .... Another third year man who has to step up and make some noise. Vickerson may have enough athletic ability to play the left defensive end position. Regardless, he needs to show he can provide strong competition for a starting job. Vonnie Holliday has been solid but at 275-280 pounds he simply does not have the desired size and is a defensive end playing out of position.

DT- Fred Evans .......... Showed he has a good motor and has been the most impressive rookie for the Dolphins so far in 2006. He has to work on his strength and may need to add some more weight. An off-season in the weightroom will help.

DE- Matt Roth ........... He will be expected to be the front runner to replace Kevin Carter at left defensive end if Carter is released for salary cap reasons after the 2006 season. Roth is bigger and stronger this year then he was as a rookie. He certainly has the desired aggressiveness for the position.

S- Jason Allen ........... After a year of learning the ropes, he will be expected to be a starter in the secondary and become a playmaker. Afterall, Nick Saban didn't spend a 1st round pick on him to be anything other then that.

*** I didn't put DT Rod Wright on the list because he will essentially be a rookie next season since this season was a washout for him because he is on I.R. all year.

agreed but we need to hang up on manny the wahbaby!:shakeno:

after 3 games in 2006, why are writing about guys who need to step up on 2007?

How do you not have chris chambers on this list...

the players that should step up are the guys actually on the field, playing.
Culpepper, off-line, secondary....they should start making plays..nevermind Fred Evans and Vickerson, they aren't the reason we are 1-2.

Or Culpepper...

Culpepper's struggles are not effort related. The guy is trying. You will see progress from Daunte over the next month until the point where he is back to where he was at his best in Minnesota. Then we can stop these ridiculous "Daunte Sucks" threads.

agreed 100%

tillman, culpepper, chambers, mcmichael, most of the offensive line especially shelton should all be added to that list as i think these guys need to step up more than any on the list. but i agree particularly with jason allen, tillman is starting but i really think he as a first round pick should be in there what the hell is this guy doing does anyone know if he has made any strides in relation to starting at tillmans safety position because he is struggling there for us and if allen would step up and be the player that he should for us then it would improve our secondary greatly

I don't care how compelx Saban's system is I get more frustrated with Allen everytime I hear there are rookie saftey's starting for other teams and it seems like I here is constantly. The Bills have 2 and the Saints have 1 and they are all playing well, yet Allen can't crack the top 7 defensive backs on a team with weak defensive backs, C'mon now.

And Hagan, there are rookie receivers making an impact 2, how about undrafted Colston on the Saints, yet Hagan hasn't done anything. I question our talent evaluators.

Geez some of you people like to nitpick on peoples posts!!! I guess I should've said these are 8 YOUNG players who we need to have step up by next season. I picked these 8 guys because they're all young and have a lot of potential to really bolster our Dolphins. I could've added more players but these are guys who are young guys who haven't played much but they need to take a step forward so our team gets to another level.
