9/18 pracrice updates

Charles playing or not the Chiefs are not looking good on O. Their line is very suspect. I noticed though I haven't been watching them play that Alex Smith is having a very bad start. I worry about Eric Berry but any defense with Sean Smith starting in is one I look forward to watching the offense going up against.

Jamaal Charles is practicing with chiefs today. An interesting turn of events. Looked OK to me
@adamteicher

You know how this works he will have a quick recovery but Misi will be yet another week.

Eric Berry is banged up and had an ankle sprain...not sure how effective he'll be but a bad ankle probably won't help him with helping on deep passes (yes we can't complete them but if by some chance we do he won't be back there to help). Tamba Hali is also banged up but he should be facing Albert so they probably know each other pretty well. That should be an interesting match up.

My bigger concern is Dontari Poe against Dallas Thomas.

Defensively the O-line for the Chiefs is in bad shape...lots of turnover there. They lost 3 starters from last year and Eric Fisher hasn't been playing very well at LT in place of Albert. Kelce at TE could give us fits and Fasano underneath against our linebackers as well as the running backs is also worrisome. Alex Smith is master of the check down and the way the short passing game hurt us against Buffalo we need to have that fixed. It helps that we should have McCain and Tripp back for some of Coyle's packages. Kelce though, averaging almost 19 yards per reception, against Jimmy Wilson is a win in their favor IMO. Smith will also run if we give him a lane to run through so the linebackers and D-line have to play smart.

Good analysis DT55. This is the main reason why I wouldn't take Miami at -4.5 this Sunday. I can see Clay carving up the seam and Williams catching some passes out of the backfield and tearing up the flats as well. This game is more of a crapshoot from a week 3 standpoint, both teams have showed great inconsistency through their first 2 games. Miami should pull out the W, but I am not sure if they will cover the spread. Decent chance this is a close game, decided by a FG late.

I hear more and more about this Kelce guy but I know Jenkins will do his job in coverage, I only worry about who matches up against Trusnick. At home though, I believe the defense will be able to communicate their responsibilities to the young guys worlds better than last week. Going forward I think everyone on the defense will play better.

"We have to get ready physically, mentally and emotionally to play a football game on Sunday," Joe Philbin on Sunday's game vs the Chiefs.

Joe Philbin estimates that roughly 30 percent of snaps in a football game come down to special teams. That's 15-17% per game.

"We do have to break more tackles. I talked to the guys today about the fact we have to break more perimeter tackles," Philbin on big plays

"We want to get the ball to our playmaker in space, on the move," Joe Philbin on the lack of big plays. Not always on the deep ball.

Philbin said what the coaches have really liked "the last few weeks" is Jelani Jenkins play speed, and he says his intelligence helps that

When talking about playing time, Joe Philbin said every week is a different week in regards to determining playing time.

Joe Philbin said protection, precision of routes and then accuracy on throws is what's holding the offense back.

Trusnick is a match up problem unfortunately, and we need Jones back to move Wilson back to the slot and Davis back as depth. Although its hard to harp on the defense when their the unit that finishes best statistically year after year.
