9//24 Practice Updates

Feels like the wheels might be coming off.

Poor play is one thing, but the media controversy that's now swirling is solely the creation of Joe Philbin. Ay-yay-yay.

Yeah the wheels are totally coming off. Tanny seems pissed and Philbin, like usual, clueless.

Win or lose, everyone can see that this team needs a coaching change after the bye.

This team needs a coaching change badly enough that even though I remain a believer that Tannehill should continue to start, I would gladly accept a QB switch as part of the deal.

Joe Philbin... just wow.

This is about the only article I could find attempting to explain Philbin's decision (Perkins)

I understand Joe Philbin’s policy on being consistent. I don’t always agree with it, but I understand. Philbin’s policy on being consistent is why he refuses to publicly name Ryan Tannehill as his starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against Oakland. In this case Philbin’s policy has created something for us, the media, to latch onto, both locally and nationally. Philbin doesn’t care. That’s not important to him. To Philbin, it’s more important to be consistent in his policy. If he answers the question on Tannehill this week, he has to answer it again next week and the next week and so on. His policy is not to answer the question. Philbin isn’t trying to motivate Tannehill, or put Tannehill on notice, or give the Raiders reason to prepare for backup quarterback Matt Moore. This is a policy issue. Philbin doesn’t answer questions on injuries. He doesn’t answer questions about players who don’t participate in practice, whatever the reason. The standard answer on those questions is always something along the lines of, “I’ll be glad to discuss any player who participated in today’s practice.” Philbin doesn’t answer questions who will start. He doesn’t answer questions about who will be on the 46-man gameday active roster. The standard answer to those two questions is always something along the lines of, “We’ll meet Friday night and determine who are the 46 players who give us the best chance to win on Sunday.”

Let's go to the land of cheese to find out what Packers fans and media think of their former offensive coor

I never thought, in a million years, Joe Philbin would be such a bumbling idiot when he got his chance to be a head coach. Yet here we are.

... yep.

Here is another one from a Dolphin fan-

Seems to be a highly questionable way to create a spark. Every day I have less confidence in Philbin and I'm a very patient fan.

Rotoworld's take

Ryan Tannehill says despite coach Joe Philbin's public noncommittal, he's starting the Week 4 game against the Raiders.
Philbin once again declined to commit to Tannehill on Thursday, but Tannehill says the coach has informed him that he'll make the start in England. Tannehill also said he asked Philbin why he was so noncommittal through the media, and Philbin said he "had his reasons." It's a bit odd to go trashing your quarterback publicly, then snuggling up with him behind closed doors, but Philbin has proven to be a weird bird. Tannehill simply gives the Dolphins a better chance to win than Matt Moore. The Fins need to pound Lamar Miller on the ground against a talentless, injury-ravaged Oakland defense.

Did you guys see the Rex Ryan press conference when he was asked about Geno starting, this was after Geno single handedly lost the Monday night game? All he said "Geno is our QB"
Now that is a coach even thou I hate the guy

I think we should be fine the team is running the ball well. Use play action and run the ball.

Tannehill: Obviously it doesn't feel good. It creates a lot of stir, a lot of distraction in the locker room, mostly from outside.

Tannehill: He has been clear with me and I know where I stand.

Tannehill: I'm taking the first snap of the game

Tannehill on if Philbin said he'd consider making in-game switch: He didn't tell me that. It's a football game. Anything can happen.

Tannehill said he became aware there was question about his status b/c of texts from "basically everyone I know."

Tannehill on whether he wishes Philbin would have handled the situation differently: "Honestly, yes."

not sounding too good to me will see how this plays out.

Philbin just dug his grave with that Tannehill quote.

If Tannehill balls out and takes that next step to become the franchise QB, he stays and Philbin goes.

If Tannehill doesn't ball out, they are both gone.

I cannot comprehend how stupid Philbin has to be to not see that his future with the Dolphins depends 100% on Tannehill.

Tannenhill needs to shut the hell up. Play better and you won't face adversity and push from your own coach. The entire past 3 years they coddled him and made him the golden boy. Well its gotten us nowhere.

Maybe he needs to finally face adversity. I disagree with people saying this is a bad approach. The "coddle Tannenhill" approach has gotten us nowhere.

"honestly...yes" wow...that's probably the most straight forward criticism of something i have heard from tannehill to the media to date...

He's taking the heat too. Several threads over on TGG calling for his job...

I love how RT is handling this. He is standing up for himself and teammates. He is in a win win situation. If he sucks it is on Joe. If he is good then he over came his coach's stupidity.
