Tight end Charles Clay, safety Jimmy Wilson, defensive ends Olivier Vernon and Derrick Shelby, former Dolphins cornerback Nolan Carroll, receiver Rishard Matthews, tailback Lamar Miller, linebacker Jonathan Freeny and rookie offensive guard Sam Brenner will all receiver over $100,000 from the NFL in performance based pay.
Those payments were usually made in the summer, but the NFLPA previously agreed to allow the NFL to cut those checks in 2016 to the deserving NFL players.
The performance based pay typically adjusts each player's salary, providing additional pay to players on low salaries who handle a large amount of their team's snaps. These players are usually starters playing on their existing rookie deals, or players on veteran minimums who have worked their way into significant playing time.
Clay, who is slated to make $1.4 million in 2014, received the highest performance based payout for the Dolphins. He'll get a check for $218,254 based on the breakout season be produced in 2013.
