Just saw Miami's 3rd quarter goal line stand in this game on ESPN classic. Forgot how bad the refs really blew it. SD fumbled on 4th and goal, the ball hit the pylon - should have been a touchback. Miami took over on the 1 foot line and SD got a safety (which ended up as margin on victory).

Wow. I remembered much of this tough loss, but not that.

I don't remember that. I do remember the play where Means stepped out of bounds and they called it a touchdown.

It wouldn't have mattered. Miami didn't match up well with either of the next 2 teams they would've have faced had they won (Steelers, then 49ers in the SB).

We took Pittsburgh into overtime, (lost 16-13) earlier that year so we matched up very well against the Steelers.

That could have been the year Marino got his payback against SF. But we'll never know.

I remembered Means stepping out at the 5 or something and still got the TD.

I think we would have beat the Steelers (should have beat them earlier in the year) in the AFC title game. But, I think the 49ers would have beaten us, unless Marino put up the game of his life.

I think our SB was lost that year when Deion Sanders picked the 49ers instead of the Fins before the season as a FA. Adding Deion + 94 Fins = SB.

That was nice to rewatch this game. We had an heck of a receiving corps with Fryar, OJ and Keith Jackson. Not much of a running game though and this Olivadotti's defense wasn't very aggressive...

I'm glad that I didn't see it. I hope I never see 1 second of it in the future just flipping through the channels. "Olivadotti defense wasn't very aggressive...." If you remember every defense he ever coached, it wasn't anything to write home about. I think Don kept him on the staff because he knew his family or something. He was the worst defensive coordinator in Miami Dolphins history. If anyone wants to argue this statement, feel free. I'm too lazy to do the research, but my gut tells me that I am correct.

ps. Irving Fryar was the man.

Maybe.....if I remember right that game was played in bad weather which tended to even things out. But the 49ers would have destroyed our secondary, like what they did the following year in the reg. season.

That was a game that I almost lost it. I went out into the woods and threw a tantrum that I am not to proud about. I sure do miss Marino.

Wasn't Olivadotti a UM guy, so he was brought in as a hometown favorite? And also consider this, Dallas raided our coaching staff in '89 or so. We had Wannstedt coaching defense and one of the Shula boys (Mike or Dave?) on offense. We might have had a decent defense if Wanny had stayed. Someone correct me if I am off on this.
