9ers changed to california 9ers?

I haven't heard anyone saying anything about changing the name either, just the location :confused2 ...but if by chance they did change from San Fran to California, wouldn't their logo have to be changed as well..

Their facility has been located in Santa Cruz for a while now. They are now working on a new stadium in Santa Cruz that the Niners will move to here in a few years. They will continue to go by the San Fransisco 49ers however.

Why aren't the Jets and Giants called the New Jersey Jets or New Jersey Giants? :confused: I thought the Meadowlands was in Jersey? But if they can be called New York so can the 49ers be called San Fran.

Maybe they should throw Oakland and San Fran together and call them California... They might actually be half decent then....

If the 49ers change or are forced to change their moniker to anything but the San Francisco 49ers, it will be a merchandising nightmare.
49ers merchandise is huge, even when the team isn't performing well, and it is almost iconic due to the Montana days. You'd be render a lot of memorabilia obsolete, and I guarantee people would be hesitant to buy material that said "Santa Clara" or "California 49ers"

They better not change their name to California 49ers they are a team that has been part of many historic games and will always be known as the SF 49ers. They may not even move because a senator is getting involved saying they can't move unless they change their name like they don't have anyhting better to do.
