I know we looked bad today but i cant do anything but hope it was just first game jitters or somethin that made us play so bad and sloppy. Its only the first game of the season, i have to be optimistic. We lost the first game last year too and we wound up doing ok. We did play sloppy as hell but i expect Sparano to rip everyone a new a**hole in the locker room after the game.
I was so excited for todays game with the assumption that we were an improved football team. In reality not much has changed on the offensive side of the ball. We still cant put up points and its quite depressing.
The worst things about today in order in my opinion were:
1) The Offensive Line
2) Play Calling
3) Anthony Fasano
4) Run Game (mostly due to the offensive line)
The offensive line was absolutely terrible. Jake Long got put on his back by Abraham. We couldnt open up holes to get the run game going. I put the most blame on all of these guys on the line.
The play calling was just bad. I get Pennington doesnt have the best arm but he can throw the ball further than 10 yards. We run too many screens and plays with short routes. In the first quarter it was run, run, pass, punt. Its great to run...IF YOU CAN. I mean were down 19-0 with 4 minutes left and were huddling and still "trying" to run the ball. I just couldnt believe it.
Fasano. I dont even need to say anything.
The run game i feel is bad due to the offensive line but also Ronnie Brown does that stutter step crap too much. He doesnt hit holes with a burst. He runs into someone and goes down for a 3 or 4 yard gain at the most. Ricky i feel like he had more of a burst today and looked sharper.
Not much was good about todays game other than the fact that our run defense looked pretty good and Phillip Merling looked good getting to the ball carrier and making tackles.
All we can do is hope today was a "fluke" and that next week we'll see the an "improved" offense moving the ball. Today was a bad combination of play calling and blocking and turnovers. They started 5 or more of their drives on our side of the field. Your not gonna win many games when that happens. I have faith we are a better team than what we displayed today but when your as flat on offense as we were it is very discouraging.
