The Dolphins passing game the first three weeks of the season is ranked 30th in the NFL, averaging a paltry 155.7 yards per game. The Dolphins have only four pass plays of 20 yards or more and only St. Louis has fewer. The Dolphins have zero pass plays of 40-yards or more and that ties them with eight teams for the fewest.

It is no small wonder the Dolphins are struggling now because in today's high-flying NFL, where most teams throw more than they run, the Dolphins aren't throwing the football very well.

Many people believe that will change with Henne at quarterback because he has a strong arm that Chad Pennington did not even before he went on the injured reserve list Tuesday.

I've been telling you and will continue repeating it -- yelling from the mountain tops if I must -- that Miami's receiver corps is more the issue than the QB.

Why do I get the feeling that is about to change in a big way.

IMO good QBs make recievers better....brady ws winning superbowls with guys that were afterthoughts at the WR spot.....

No secret the stronger the arm is, the less seperation that is required. Obviously, a strong arm doesn't mean you're a good Qb IE:Russell....but it cetrtainly helps.

I agree...we arent going to be 30th anymore. We are going to be 32.

We dont block great, our WRs suck, and our QB is below avg. Thats not the recipe for a good passing game.

In the offseason (if there is a season next year) we need to sign a big time FA WR. Then we need a QB. Then we need some guys that block.

The good news is Merling, Langford, and Smith look like longtime anchors on the defense.

It may go either way, because Henne's game is not to pick apart with high percentage passes, Henne is going to take some chances deep, and will throw plenty of passes in the 15 -25 range.

It will be mostly run, and when needed, pass.

I expect a true power running in the Beginning: Run,Run,Run,Run,Run,Pass,Pass,Run,Run,Run,Run,Run,Run,Pass...

And when he gets confortable:

Run,Run,Run,Pass,Run,Pass,Pass,Run,Run,Run,Run,Pass,Run,Run,Pass...

Either Chad will grow to be more Efficient, and Miami's rating will will get Dramatically better, or Chad will miss a lot of passes, and some INTs, while the passing Offense does hit #32.

I personally have a lot of confidence in Chad #2.

32th will be eternally reserved for the BROWNS!!

So basically, we need a new offense with 2 new QB, 5 new WR, 2 new RB, 1 new FB, 3 new TE, 5 new OL . :foundout:

its a 50/50 thing...you need a guy under center that can stretch the field, make those big throws, and hit his target...but you also need that target to catch the ball and to get open...with us having a big ? at QB and a weak WR core, both positions are the reason why we haven't been lighting it up in the passing game

The offensive line does need to do a better job with pass protection, Vernon Carey and Jake Long need to step it up big time. Henne's arm will open up patterns Pennington just can't make such as deep outs. We do need a receiver who has the balls to run the middle seam routes as well. It's obvious the coaching staff wants us to be a run first team, but you need to air it out a little to keep defenses honest!

What about the play calling?. If it doesn't get better I am not sure it makes a difference who is our QB.
