Ganging up
The Texans have a solution for trying to stop Dolphins running back Ricky Williams.

"You've got to gang-tackle him," injured defensive end Gary Walker said. "If you look at him on film, he makes some impressive runs. He's doing the same things in the league now that he did when he was at (the University of Texas)."

Williams set a team record and led the NFL with 1,853 yards and 16 touchdowns last season. He had 10 games with at least 100 rushing yards, including a pair of consecutive 200-yard efforts late in the season.

"He does a lot of stuff that a lot of people can't do," Walker said. "He's short, powerful, strong and he's fast. He's got everything you look for in a running back."

The Texans ranked near the bottom in run defense in 2003, allowing 130.6 yards per game.

Matter of execution
The closer it gets to game day, the more unlikely it appears Texans Pro Bowl defensive end Gary Walker will play against the Dolphins. Walker, who has a shoulder sprain, has been limited to individual work at practice.

Dolphins coach Dave Wannstedt said Walker's availability won't affect his team's game plan.

"It really won't," Wannstedt said. "I think for the first ballgame, the first couple of games, that you don't scheme as much to what they're really doing from a personnel standpoint or plays as you do making sure you can execute what you want to do.

"That's kind of how we have always approached the early games in making sure that we execute our offense and special teams because you're going to see some different things, and they're going to see different things from us."
