A change for FinHeaven? All Premium Members... Opinions NEEDED!

Come to think of it, leaving this board invisible would probably work best. Make the new board the premium aqua board or something like that. Showing the price as a decrease from the original 89 bucks.

As for camp reports.

As much as I would love to get rich quick, I don't think it would work because every year the media is taking more and more of a Training Camp report approach, and you can bet your last buck, they did it because they saw how popular it is from this site.

Ya'll know I'm only in it for the fans anyway. I've already been offered two reporting jobs from papers reading the reports. :)

Certainly leave Premium invisible, as it is now - but let it be known that it's there, as an incentive to be a good member and as an enticement to provide value to the site. The more I think about it being called Orange, the more I like it. ;)

Now, should the Aqua forum be visible/yet not accessible to Blue members, (as the same type of enticement) or invisible?

You're right. Very true. It would be hard to compete with the FREE PB Post blog. And now Armando has a blog. Plus, making your stuff paid content would not cause the site to lose some appeal to brand new members, it also wouldn't do you any good.....since there's always a new guy or offering camp reports as well. Yours are the best. But if 5 other people are doing it, plus the papers....for free....it doesn't work.

I'd do believe the papers have come at you. Heck, Dude got a job covering high school games last year with the Herald as a result of his. :)

3 different boards helps the mods as the mods wouldn't have to spend as much time in say the PREMIUM boards since people paying $84 aren't jerks for the most part (although Im sure some would consider me a jerk.. ). The 3 boards is helping the mods. The mods would only really have to work the FREE boards and the mid-level board on a part time basis. (I still say 2 tiers is better and just meet the $84 and $30 halfway at like $55 or something)

Charging for camp reports would be nice, but some idiot would just pay, then post it on the free board and ruin it for everyone. Or another one of these SCUMMY fan site owners would sign up and post it for FREE on their boards or site. That would be tough to pull off.

But I have said fromt he get go, exclusive audio, exclusive columns, exclusive info like that WOULD be a plus. Maybe, just maybe, get an ex-player to write a column......and have it be ONLY for paying members. (with all the new income coming into the site NOW it would be worth it to pay an ex-player a few bucks to write something weekly)

The camp report thing was just a joke, and your right, people would just paste it somewhere else. I only post them on 4 sites, and they end up on 10 that I know of.

Now having a former player do a column could be used as advertising for the new mid level board.

"Come join the new premium section featuring weekly columns from Dan Marino".

Well part of my issue is that I have different areas to comment on different things. I don't know of the viability of it but what if we had an extra option when we posted in the main forum, everyone can see, members, and premium members respectively then the posts could be alternate colors as well

This allows us to still get all of our main info in one spot, and consolidates where we have to go. Then we can use this form for issues like this and leave the main forum for Fin talk!!!

Just an idea. Aside from that I love it.

Also what do you guys think of sponsoring newbies, AKA points for bringing in people, or maybe you can bring them into the 2nd tier for a week to preview it?

Absolutely, no tier should be blocked from posting in the tier below; Orange could have access to all forums, Aqua to theirs and main.

I like the sponsorship idea.

Muck and AJ, what is the system the buffalo range uses that involves something like buffalo bucks, or something like that? Any chance that could be an Orange benefit?

I'm not quite sure I'm following you here.

Are you suggesting we keep the main forum as is, but have color coding for posters that belong to certain user groups??

I need to make a run to Subway soon.

Yup yup!!

Dude told me he turned them down because it was not enough pay, I got an offer from the Sun Sentinal to start out low, and work my way up. Not enough money, too much time. It was not directly from this site persay. A friend of mine knows the editor there, and told him about me.

I was also offered a job in Orlando, but it's too cold up there, and the pay flat out stunk. :D

See, that's where we're better. There's no risk of you ever being fired or getting a paycut here.

If i post in the main forum i get a radio button to choose one of the following 3 options:

Allow all
Allow members
Premium Only

Now this post will go in the main forum of any other forum for that matter. depending on what i choose each user will be able to see my post or not based on there membership level and my choice in my post.

So i log in and look at the main page perhaps i see a posts with color codes. this allows me to determine who can see this post so aqua posts would be fore everyone, white posts would be for members and orange posts would be for premium. this way you can display all of the posts in the forum and have the ability to see what level each is posted at. Does that make it any clearer or did I make it worse?

Haha, too funny.

I am trying to get inside the organization though.

The guy that got struck by lightning is a good friend of a good friend of mine. The agent friend that I mentioned from Next Step Sports. He is the one who is suposedly going to try and get me inside when the camp is closed to the public.

I see what you're saying now. That's a really interesting concept. I hadn't thought of anything like that.

My question would be, how usable would this functionality be?? It'd be great for "members only" threads (jeez, I said that and immediately thought of 10 "members only" jacket jokes), but would it be useful for replying to existing threads started by "blue" members?? Or aqua threads that were started with "allow all"?? What about when an aqua member quotes a "members only" post and sets his reply to "allow all"??

If I'm envisioning it correctly, I think it would be kinda messy. Very cool from a technical standpoint, but not the best scenario. Certainly not as free-flowing as a regular forum.

Obviously, you it'd be great for making off-the-cuff remarks about other members. But that could be dangerous in such a format.

The cconcept is great execution in development is a different beast all together. the gist was that the permisions are set for the entire thread by the original poster so if the original poster chooses only blue then only blue and above(wwhatever the groups are called ) can see the intial thread and any of the replies.

Muck makes a new post and opens it to everyone it looks just the same as they always do

Muck makes a post and marks it members and up only. the post apears aqua and only aqua and orange members can post and read (aqua can see orange posts due to the fact that the original post was declared that way)

Muck makes a third post (you post whore) with the premiums only, and it shows up as orange and only the orange folk can see it in the main forum

the idea is to bring all the football back to the main forum, and leave features, benefits etc in a forum like this one.

I still like my points idea too, examples of other boards

1 point per 100 posts
2 points for a base member
1 Bonus point when that member breaks 100 posts (repeating)
5 points for persuading member to pony up cash to be new level
Repeat 100 point post (not doubled from original membership
1 point for each 5 star thread created

misc points awarded by mods for tasks, keeping on topic, doing favors or work above and beyond, contributing to the development or activities of the site, so on and so forth. Its a way to show who's helping and not just who's post whoring it out.

Ok, that makes sense. Even more interesting. Very cool stuff.

Here's another question: how would we effectively promote this?? With the forum-based plan, people will see the forum right below the main forum (along with details in the forum description), click on it and get an explanation. Plus, you're getting your own forum. We'd have to come up with a good sell to translate your idea into something that sounds as "big" as a forum to the average user.

I think I like the points idea. Lots of people aim to please or stay in good graces with the site. I think this could have a positive effect.

I like the idea of having different levels of membership. It would give those people who aren't invited to be premium members a chance to get away from the trolls who are on the main board. It would also help the site out more with more money coming in.

I like Awing's idea of point levels and stuff like that. I don't know if it's just me, but I think I would get confused with the different post colors. Some extra features for the premium members could be minor stuff like disabling the 60 second wait on the search feature. I know it's there so everyone doesn't bring the server down with 100's of searches together but with there not being a whole lot of premium members (compared to the member total for the whole site) I don't think it would be a bad idea. The same could also be used for the 30 second wait time which is mainly in place for spammers.

I think it'd be nice to have different colors for member names in the active users list at the bottom of the forum. If we use different colors for different levels of membership, you could color the username in the active user lists. Something that would make the names stand out.

If I come up with other ideas, I'll be sure to list them. Keeping this site family friendly would be great. I'm sure it's hard though with people who frequently circumvent the profanity filter or abbreviate it. I dunno, these are just the thoughts that came to mind for now.
