Maybe qb isn't that important in FA. Maybe we are going after run blocking o-lineman. Maybe our offensive philosiphy isn't upgradeing the passing game. Last year some of us was very upset with the playcalling because some games Gus threw 35-40 times a game in close ones while Ricky and Ronnie barely touched the ball. Mularky had a power running game in Pitt that made him successful with below average qb's. We may just go after D and people that can road grade and perform best in the running game. I post this because I don't want some of you guy's being too upset if you were wanting qb's or wr's that may not be needed. We can have a power house and Super Bowl contender with Ricky and Ronnie and not big name qb's and wr's

You have a good point. I mean, Tommy Maddox ran that offense like he was Marino...

'Touchdown Tommy' if i remember correctly.

I wouldn't go quite that far.

I would, the steeler offense was fierce. As soon as Big bn came to town obvioulsy tommy looked horrible, but befoe big ben Tommy maddox was a star.

Im not making this up i swear, under maddox the steelers almost went to the super bowl...

Personally, I think Saban's approach is to target solid FAs in need spots so that he can get flexibility in the draft.

Well Pitt kept pretty much the same offense and look what they done with a rookie. Then in Rothlisburgers second year he won it all throwing the ball 14 or 15 times a game. Maybe we can do the same with a rookie or non pro bowl talent qb. Not saying thats what Rothlisburger is or anything but Mularky has better backs to work with.

to draft freggin playmakers. I luv it. Saban is a genius. With or without Brees or Culpicker. Remember that.

Exactly! Lets review our offensive playmekers: Rick and Ronnie RB Randy TE and Chris at WR. If we get a solid o-line which we may have we didnt run enough to see but I beleive Ricky and Ronnie both averaged over 4ypc and get playmekers on D we have a SB formula like Pitt did this year only with better players at the skill positions except qb.

from touchdown tommy to turnover tommy in one year....trust me, my good friend is a steeler nut....

I think Saban understands the importance of top quarterbacking, and I believe the Dolphins focus on finding a top QB has been more than obvious.

I believe we can have both a very good running game and very good passing game.

Now whether we can land a top QB remains to be seen, but I think we will.

I think he wants a smart qb that don't care to hand the ball off and not turn it over with stupid forces. I think that is why he wants Brees who had that type of offense and was successful. It seems as though alot of people are wanting to see a wide open throw alot offense. I would rather see what R@R can do with a ball control offense.

You're right, if I remember correctly they lost in OT to Tennessee in the Divisional Round, so not too far off, although no one in the AFC was stopping the Raiders that year.

And just for clarification, I think "Touchdown Tommy" was actually Tommy Vardell, a running back for Cleveland in the 80's.

I would rather have an offense that attacks the entire field and is balanced, it gives opposing defenses much more to prepare for and much more of the field to defend.

I think Saban probably feels that 10 mil. is too much for a qb coming off a shoulder injury and doesn't want to give a similar amount plus 2nd round pick for a qb coming off a major knee injury. I think if he can't get these guys at his price he'll get someone like McCown & draft someone like Croyle. And I think that's reasonable. And there's always next year....
