Just had a thought that if for some reason Tannehill does get benched, it may actually be good for him. He's started every professional game he's been a part of. He has never watched things from a different angle.

Maybe it would be best for everyone if Tannehill watches from the sidelines so that he can see things from a different angle/perspective. He'll be able to see the defense better and what everyone on the field is doing at a given time and won't have to be rushed to make a decision so he can just sit there and watch how a play unfolds.

Maybe it's optimistic thinking, but wondering what other people think about this.

It (hopefully) would light a fire under his ass also.

My thinking is that benching him can go 1 of 2 ways and neither one of them includes staying at his current talent level.

There's nothing Moore motivational than watching someone doing your job in place of you. It's embarrassing, and and difficult to watch. It makes you think about what you have done, and what you want to do. I say let it happen.

He is done here if he is benched. If he is pulled for performance, another QB is needed.

Regardless of his performance this week and beyond, if we don't draft a good QB in the first two rounds next year I am going to be pretty upset. Ideally it would be 1st round LB, 2nd round QB

Is it just me or was it much more commonplace to bench QBs back in the day? It rarely happens these days, especially the in game benchings where the guy is playing like total **** for a half and you put the backup in for the rest of the game, not taking away the starting role but just sending a message. Am I misremembering or didn't that used to happen a lot more? I understand its an extremely complex issue and the argument for not benching your "starter" ever but at what point did QBs become so sensitive?

I remember Don Strock coming in quite a bit for David Woodley back in those days. It did seem like more QBs came in to bail out the starters besides just mop up time. Not sure why that trend has changed.

As far as Tanne sitting on the bench, I don't see that as short term if he gets benched unless Moore is just stinking up the place. People keep thinking all a guy has to do is think his job is in jeopardy and he all of a sudden he plays well. If the talent isn't there, the talent isn't there.

This.

He needs to sit. I mean how many games do we need to see ?? honestly people honestly, since he has started until present day it's been mediocre at BEST. If he doesn't have it, he doesnt have it. He can't throw the deep ball, STILL can't that is not something you learn, it's something you have or don't. Tell me how moore and cousins can come off the bench from not playing at all and wing it and complete it ?? the longer we wait the more losing seasons we have. I'm sick of this crap, wake up philbin, your starting to wake up, if you wanna live, start moore, yes he will throw INT's yes hes a gunslinger but he is exciting and will also win games with his play. It's ok to say u got it wrong with a qb, it's not ok to not realize it or realze it and continue on with the insanity. Please for the love of Miami fans, put moore in.

no your TOTALLY right, if they played like crap, BAM benched. Today it's like tip toeing around these guys. 17 has had 5 games in a row of bad play 3 last year 3 this year. ppl are so afraid to make changes today in the nfl espeically with the qb position.

Ryan's career with the Fins has almost exactly mirrored that of Chad Henne (and with the same dogged support from FH and then sudden collapse of support), and he is about to be replaced by the same guy. Like Henne, he may get another chance elsewhere.

He probably will. Since he has a 4 year contract we can trade him. Teams like Tampa probably would be more than interested. Wouldn't that be ironic. Our last two hopefull for a franchise QB ending up on Florida teams.

But to be honest. If Tannehill has the mental strength a benching would not hurt him. Sometimes it is a good thing to watch a game from the outside and learn that way. There is really not that many QBs who literally can step in and become a top QB right out of the gates. I do understand why they force fed us Tannehill. A #8 pick is almost to high to waste on the bench. But he was lacking college experience. I think sitting behind Moore for a little while and see an NFL game close up and see what coaches see would have done him much better.

I don't see anything wrong with giving him a mental time out. If he can't handle that then screw you. You have no business being a franchise QB.

In the beginning of the season I was still on the fence. I thought that we need year 3. But I did not expect him to regress in such dramatic fashion. I would either bench him completely but in all fairness I would sit down with my QBs and tell them both "hey, Ryan. Take a break for a couple games."

A good coach is not hired to force feed us a player. They are supposed to make sure that we are competitive now and in the future. I am getting so tired of this constant coddling of million dollar players with total disregard of the people who are dragging their asses to every home game in hopes of a great competitive game just do be disappointed again. And then to hear the line "we didn't execute. We have to get better." No **** Jose.

I think players and coaches forget who is actually paying them.

Heck, we are putting children on time outs. And an adult can not handle that because of a bruised ego? Please.

Shula benched Marino in the first game of the 85 season (against Houston), when he was playing poorly. He also yanked him against SF in 86, after he didn't try to make a tackle on a pick 6. I don't see anything wrong with pulling Tannehill in a game if he plays poorly or if we can't move the ball and score. Doesn't mean he can't still start.
