Let me start by saying the following is being fueled by the daily posting of threads which have little to no value. Larry Fitzgerald is not going to be a Dolphin. Neither is Anquan Boldin, Chad Johnson or PacMan Jones. So why have a thread dedicated to such nonsense? My favorite thread to date is titled, "Michael Turner/Calvin Pace/Javon Walker/Jason Taylor". This thread, created by someone that just joined the site and is making his first post, included four claims: 1. Michael Turner had a trip planned to Davie and was expected to sign a contract during his visit, 2. Calvin Pace was visiting with the Dolphins and would be signed by the end of the weekend, 3. Javon Walker had scheduled a visit to the Dolphin’s facility and there was a "very realistic chance" Walker could "jump on board", and 4. Minnesota offered a 2nd and 3rd round pick for the services of Jason Taylor.

Believable? To many here, yes. All because this person got his information from "a source close to the team". At the time I questioned the post…now you all know why. It is my feeling that we need to evolve into a different period of the off-season. I hate to burst everyone’s bubble but the free agency period is coming to an end and the big name that everyone is looking for isn’t a free agent anymore. Likewise, we aren’t trading for Anquan Boldin or Chad Johnson. At least not until draft day and even then the chances are close to nil. The best I can do for you ladies and gentlemen is to agree there is a chance Jason Taylor gets dealt. But that too won’t happen until draft day. So what do we do during this period of time which takes us deep into April? I say we have discussions. Enough of the "PTI said this" and "a source claims that". Instead, how about an "I feel this" or an "I think that". I believe that proves to be more valuable.

I will even lead the way with a discussion on TE’s. It is my belief that the weakest position on our roster currently is TE. It is also my belief that for this team the TE position is the second most important position on our roster, behind QB. My reasoning is no matter how you slice it our QB this year is going to be young. Personally I think John Beck is the answer. Others don’t and feel we need to draft a QB number one. Regardless, whoever is taking snaps for the Fins this year is going to have little NFL experience and the greatest safety net for a young QB is a solid TE. David Martin, in my opinion, does not qualify as a "solid TE". So here is the discussion. How should we remedy this situation? Wait for a TE to get cut? Draft a TE? Trade for a TE? My opinion is…

Trade for a TE. Joe Klopfenstein to be exact. He is 25 years old, 6'5" and weighs in around 260 pounds. He had an excellent career at Colorado and the Rams took him in the 2nd round of the '06 draft. When Linehan became the coach of the Rams he brought in McMichael and Klopfenstein went from being a rookie with promise to a young backup. Even more recently the Rams signed former first round pick Anthony Becht to a two year contract thus making the TE position even more crowded in St. Louis. The common response from people here is to say that because he is a backup there he will be no better than a backup here. I disagree. Linehan is a huge fan of McMichael and couldn’t pass him up once the Dolphins released him. His signing had little to do with the ability of Klopfenstein. As for the signing of Becht, I am not sure what that says. All I know is this guy was a stud in Colorado and has excellent size and athletic ability. At the ’06 combine he ran the 40 in 4.63 and benched 225 pounds 27 times. He followed that up with a 40 time of 4.56 at his pro day.

With McMichael penciled in the #1 slot and Becht recently signing a two-year deal I think Klopfenstein can be had for a late round selection. He is talented but the Rams don’t seem to have plans for him. His output last year was abysmal, catching only two balls for 37 yards and a TD. I know this is not the type of production anyone wants to see of a player being traded for but I think this guy’s talent far surpasses his numbers. And I refuse to say he is a "Parcels type player" but he does compare nicely in height and weight to Jason Witten who is 6’5" and weighs 260 pounds. Let the discussion begin….

Interesting. Not sure he could be had for a "late round pick", however. Dominique Byrd maybe.

I would pull the trigger for a 6th or 7th, however.

Not sure he is worth trading for, we could have signed a superior TE in Troupe and passed, I am all for signing him or Byrd when they cut one of them.

Come on. What are the odds you get a better player in round 6? This guy went in round two just a couple of years ago. It wouldnt be a bad move.

I'm not as down on David Martin as everybody else. He had some drops to be sure, but his production statistically was on par with all of our other receivers. I think that other positions are a bigger priority this year and that if Martin doesn't progress then we can deal with it next year.

Gary Barnidge Lousiville Cardinals TE would be a good Pick up in the later round he is 6'6 234 pound would be a great Target in the redzone

We are going to pick a TE in this yearsw draft and I have been betting the bank it would be in the 3rd or 4th round as there is plenty of top talent to be found at that position in those rounds. BUT with as great as our needs are and if this guy has the potential then I say it is certainly something to look at strongly and I like the idea. Right now I am projecting that we go 1st DE, 2nd OT, 2nd CB, 3rd TE, 4th G or WR and LB and or DT in the later rounds. But I would love to see us spend the 3rd on a WR and 4th on a G and still get at good TE with a 6th or 7th. My gt feeling though is Parcells is going to go with Peele, the FA we just signed and draft a TE this year for the 3rd tight end and Martin will be cut or trade if possible. Martin is just too injury prone and is not the blocking back Bill like where Peele is.

PS We were dumb for at least not getting a draft pick even a 7th rounder for Mike last year. That move and releasing Carter were big mistakes in my book.

At the very least, I agree our TE's need upgraded. I would think we would have a better chance of getting Becht from the Rams. Parcells drafted him and he probably would cost a 6th or 6th and 7th.

I would be happy with him or Joe K though and I think that would solve our problem for a few years at TE.

I don't think we'll draft a TE. I would love to get fred davis, but I suppose it ain't gonna happen. I think we're more likely to pick up a TE after the june 1st cuts. And who knows, Becht might be one of those names available.

Martin needs to go to the bench he has had like 7 years to prove himself and he has proven himself...........to be a backup

It would not happen and if it does I'll be very surpised that a 46th overall player gets traded 3 years later for a 6th round pick or a 7th rounder...

You lost me at this statement, how did NYG win the Superbowl after losing one of the best TE's around. I do understand having a dominant TE is very helpful but 2nd most important come on. RB, LT, C, CB and on and on, TE needs an upgrade but not before DL, OL, CB's. How great are New Englands TE's, Dal has one,Indy,Clev,SD,KC(TG is more of a big wr). I just don't see it as important as other positions, it certainly would be nice to have a good one but I wouldn't make it our 1st priority.

bingo, he has been in my sig since the season was over of who we needed to get in the draft. Also Carlson's draft stats possibly could have taken a hit after the combine. Depending on how big, He might be had late 3rd or early 4th.

Finally a post with some relivance to reality about the Dolphins. I agree totally on your first paragraph finkle..... I like how all these post are turning out to be just talk. I however did jump on one players cut that I wanted and we missed, Crumpler. I think the tight end is a huge part to a successfull offense. He is pretty much the check down reciever and primier blocker on plays outside of the box. I think the signing of a Kop. would be great. I dont trust Martin or Halterman at the position anymore. I love Peele but he is more of a number 2 guy and they guy we picked up for the Jets I think adds only depth to the position. He looks more like a special teamer to me when I saw his stats. I hope we make a move on someone outside of the draft. I dont think there is that much depth at TE as people think and I dont want to see them use a top 4 round pick on anyone. I would rather us add some much needed depth to the line and CB as that is a deep position in this years draft. If we got a guy of good skill it would pan out better. We could go with a high pick next year on a TE after we sure up some loose ends at other positions. Then the rook will have a year to learn from a older mature TE that has been at the pro level for awhile.

I still think Martin is a good backup athletic TE who can fill a certain role and not necessarily be "the man".

My inside source tells me we'll draft a tight end.....hey wait a minute, my OTHER inside source tells me we'll sign a free agent TE ;).....Seriously though, I think that Martin is not the answer and we'll draft a TE. Unless we can steal one from the Cowboys of course
