Alot of people have been mentioning the idea of drafting Bush, and I have thought "why the hell would we do that?", we have RB, and bigger needs. But what if we had the 1st pick, and drafted Bush for Trade bait. Should this situation occur we could sign Bush to a trade friendly contract, and get more than a QB out of it. We could possibly get Leinhart, and a pick in the process.

I dont think we will draft Bush, Unless we get rid of Ricky. In which case I still think its a dumb move considering we need a QB. Of course I didnt want Brown either, sure hes a good RB but we need a QB more.

There is no such thing as a #1 draft pick "trade friendly contract". Plus, we have to take Leinart if we are #1. Actually, if we are #1, you might as well give Leinart the playbook after the Rose Bowl, and tell him to start learning.

this needs to be moved to the college football/nfl draft forum.

drafting someone, then trading him in the same draft happens more in the NBA. if someone wants Bush, they could trade up before we pick.

I disagree, all it takes is putting the majority of the bonus money in the 2nd or later years. Backloading wouldn't be attractive, as he could be released before he gets his money, but putting it in the second year shows him he will still get paid the big bucks.

True, but tading down could put us out of position for whoever it is we really want, such as Leinhart, etc. Where-as if we have a straight up trade for that player, with picks added we get what it is we want, without risking missing out.

well, its saying if we have the #1 overall. Couldnt trade up to before us unless we were to trade down. Either way though I think we will be lucky to get #5 overall.

Unfortunately (or is it fortunately?) I feel the same way. Other teams are just sucking it up too much for us to slip that far.

Well, if we had the #1 pick, why would we draft Bush if Leinart is the target? Too many things could go wrong and blow up in your face. If we somehow wind up with the first pick, it had better be Leinart.

Pretty much. I really want us to get Leinart. I think he could turn our team around like Palmer is doing with Cinci.

The problem is if we actually drafed Bush every other team would know we couldent possibly keep Ricky, Ronnie, and Bush. Any Gm who wanted a back would just sit there and make us either cut one of them or trade one for below market value. We would have no leverage in the trade talks at all.

Hey guys you wouldnt need to sign the player. When you draft the player you draft his rights.. You just trade his rights away for whatever the trade value is.. Thats why eli manning was traded on draft day without a contract as well as ernest wilford... Remember Hensons rights got traded to dallas

Very true. If we drafted him though I still think other Gm's would just sit back and let it play out untill we were forced to unload either Bush or Ronnie. They would have to know we couldnt keep both and we would end up being forced to unload one for less than his actual value.

It would end up being Ronnie.. If it was Bush it would turn into a bidding war and I disagree with whoever said we wont gave leverage in trade talks

Yes we would and this is the leverage..

We have Bush.. you want Bush
